I saw it about two weeks ago--thought it was pretty cruel. I've know guys who bragged about setting cats' tails on fire, burrying them up to their neck and going over them with a lawnmower, bottle rockets, etc. Cruel is cruel, but hurting someone's pet that has a bond with the family members is particularly offensive. Call me a pussy, but that's fine. I guess I've just never seen the "funny" in torturing or killing someone's pet.
Now, I will admit to driving off the neighbors tomcat with some close shots from the Red Ryder at about 10 yards, but never really to hurt it--I just don't want him continuing to wiz on my air compressor and slicks!

I read about the whole thing in the news a couple days ago. The "ad" is internet only, and was created by someone at Ford's marketing company in Europe. To say Ford was pissed is an understatement. The company that created it is saying they didn't do it officially, that someone inside put it together and posted it on the web without authorization. I think Consumption Junction was cited in the story as distributing it too. After Ford and the ad firm get done appoloqizing to everyone, I suspect at the very least they'll hunt down the guy who did it and can him. Might cost the ad company Ford's business.
Oh yeah, the cat is computer generated, which is why it looks so real. But it's still cruel, and I'd be more than pissed if my 8 year old saw it. CG or not, I just don't see the humor in killing a pet, even if it is a joke.

Miker- no, the one I'm referring to, a print ad, features a half-naked African woman on the veldt being passed by a Range Rover sufficient to cause her boobies to be swept aside. it caused a furor, naturally, and was pulled by the company.

I like fun, too, God knows, but the catslayer ad kinda ruined my morning. I'm one of those softhearted/softheaded guys that doesn't eat meat or fish, spirits mistreated animals off to the vet, etc.... a big fat puss, in other words.

as an adult I can seperate out the intent to sell cars via humor, but often your average useless kid sees this kind of advertising as a tacit approval of cruelty to animals.

on the other hand if a tiny Dick Cheney got his head lopped off in the sunroof, I'd be laffin' like an idiot.
