Building a bucket and need some advice. I have to go super cheap cause we are poor. What is the best early ford front end to use? I have a set of 36 ford spokes but I also have a set of 54 chevy spindles and brakes. I thought of the cheep Speedway kit but would much rather have split bones. What are the diffrences between the 30s and 40s ford cars width wise. How hard is it to change over to bendix hydro brakes instead of mech. I can score model A complete front ends for a good price, anything usuable with those?

The Ford stuff is fairly cheap. You might want to start off with 39 - 48 front end. You get juice brakes, good spindles, etc. You'll need to drop the axle on the ends to get the thing lower. Not sure which widths came on which years.
good luck!

Ford axles:
1928-31 51-7/8 inches long radius rod centers36 1/4
1932 51 3/4 inches long radius rod centers36 9/16 inches apart
1933-36 i beam is thinner than 32 axle but dimensions are the same.
1937 Tube axle50 inches long with rad centers 38 1/2 apart
1938-41 49 7/8 inches wide with rad centers 38 1/2 apart
1942-47 52 inches long radius rod centers 40 3/4
1948 same as 42-47 but with extra hole in beam for shock
Perch bosses are 2 inch this for 1932 to 36
Perch bosses are 2 1/4 thick for 1928-31 axles as well as37 to 1948
Hope this helps

I like how the 30-31 ford axels look. You can use 48 ford pick up breaks and spindels on them. They are easy to find at swap meets. And you can buy the shoes new at an "AutoZone" for about 16 bucks for the set, and their life time.
