View Full Version : Did anyone watch Overhaulin ? (shoebox episode)

I'm surprised that I haven't seen any feedback about the Shoebox on Overhaulin'. Other than billet wheels I liked it a lot and that’s a simple fix.
It was fun to see the joke played on DeHeras but other than that, the car was a liitle weak. I saw lots of bodywork no-nos. I saw more fake made-for-TV-"drama". Funny thing, it happened to be on but I would not make a point to change the channel to it.
yeah i was waiting to see what was said. i thought i would hate it after seeing them grind off that nice black paint and cut the drip rails off.... and off the car when the first showed the rims i thought they looked horid, like billet versions of 80s rims
but all put together, yeah looked sharp i liked it. made a good package

I'm with you...overall, I liked it, especially if the wheels got dumped. Certainly liked it better than some of Foose's other cars that I've seen.
Oh, and I was pleasantly surprised that they kept the flattie...

Those hosts sucked- from an automotive standpoint. And I could do without the antics. Did they need to show that one guy hamming it up for the camera for as long as they did?
It bothers me that they have the female host JUST because she is a babe. I'd rather see a car-girl in there, than eye candy. If I wanted eye candy I'd watch everything else that's on. It would be nice if they found someone who can bring something to the show instead of kissing ass. They all acted like Foose invented flipping a bumper.
Other than that stuff it wasn't bad. I don't know what I'd do if someone stole my car and they tried to accuse me of it. I sure as shit would believe it because that's how MOST companies treat their customers.
On a side note, I happened to catch that show "Tuner Transformation" on Speed today. As if the name didn't suggest "SHIT" already, it definately lived up to it. If you think that the guys on American Chopper and American HotRod are acting, you should see this shit show. HORRIBLE acting, and when the kid gets his car back on this show, it's the same color with a black graphic down the side, and 18" rims, and he's acting like they gave him a Ferrari. All they do on that show is "flash" the chip in the computer and reprogram it. I won't be catching this show again.

You thought the joke was funny Tman? I seem to remember a time where someone hid just your doors and you werent' too happy. You would flip if your car just disappeared...
Oh yeah, and I would love it if crappy reality "dramas" like this and american chopper and hotrod would go away, give me speed or history channel car shows...

I liked the interior. The seafoam green outside color was cool too.

I just hope he didn't have completely different plans for it. It'd be a paint to "un" french headlights and such if that wasn't his plans. Now if someone grabbed your parts chaser or the wifes' late model and "overhauled" it, that I'd like that.

I saw the very end...the paint scheme sucked ASS! I liked both colors, but the layout was awfull!!
Aside from that, I guess the car didn't look bad, but I only caught the last five minutes or so...
...don't know what it looked like BEFORE!

Personally, I liked the paint scheme and the interior.
I'm wondering how much you could get for a set of original, one-off, Chip Foose wheels on Ebay? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
The guy that was acting up for the camera...ok, enough already. He's no Jim Carey!
I thought the "reveal" (your son played a trick on you) was kinda lack-luster but I thought the cops and the hand cuffs were a nice touch. That part was pretty convincing.

Well, other than acting like flipping bumpers was a NEW idea, I was impressed with Chips behavior. He's as big a goof as anyone here and appears to still be human. I thought it was cool to see Chris Titus working on the car. "Oh sure, my car took three years and your doing this in a week?".
And yes...the hosts need work. Total Cheese.

I thought it was entertaining and pretty decent overall, but I think it would be better if they did it like that "pimp my ride" show. You know, fix up people's cars that can't really afford it. That guy just went out and bought another car when his turned up missing. He didn't even need the insurance money to do it.
I liked it when he told the "insurance company" that his car was worth 20 grand. Yeah Right.

If he didn't like the finished, autographed car he could sell it for a hundred thousand or so and buy another like he had and put a bunch of money in the bank. Wish someone would take one of my cars and do that! Be nice to have something finished!

Years ago I had someone tell me that everyone changes when the camera gets turned on, those guys are probably really nice and cool normaly.Who knows ,better than watching American Idol!

TLC Shoebox (http://tlc.discovery.com/fansites/overhaulin/episode/episode103/episode103.html) Pics before and after...
Isn't that some kind of crestliner based two tone design? When it was copper, it looked bad ass. Flatty's and 20" wheels DO NOT mix. I enjoyed the show though. That was a NICE car when they started.
I liked the show.
I watched it with a little more interest after reading Retorfire's post regarding Chip's intetgity or lack there of.
I am waiting for them to remake my 62. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well I finally remembered to watch one of the new car shows and it was this one. I guess from the reaction here that there will NEVER be a car related show that will please anyone on the HAMB. For the love of pete can't you guys do anything but criticize. With all of the other crap that's puking out of the small screen I'd think that a car related show would thrill you. I've stopped watching TV, just nothing that catches my interest, but a show like that at least can let you sit back and relax for an hour even though not every minute has been written to accomodate YOUR personal tastes. Come on, anyone want to ante up the several million it takes to get a program on the air? That way you get to dictate the content and you get the satisfaction of FINALLY GETTING IT RIGHT. Rant over.

Personally,I'm not critical of the idea of the show, but I also agree that the show wastes a helluva of their time on BS stuff.Titus was the only funny guy there with his comment on how long it took to build his car.
But I gotta say......the color matched Fooses shirt.Good color for shirts, looked like shit on that car. Those wheels don't belong on a shoebox either.
Just my worthless opinion,I still want more car shows, but I liked that Ford more when they started than after.Wonder if the new owner liked the paint.

Didn't watch the show.
But those wheels are horrendous, the flipped bumper does not work on that car, and the stance leaves a lot to be desired.
On the other hand, the flatty and the interior are really cool, and I'm not totally opposed to that color scheme.
Fuck TV, concentrate on the car.

It was okay. But I agree that I'd rather see them help out people who can't afford to fix it up that nice. That's the thing I like about that "pimp my ride" show, it's not the cars becuase I don't really car for any of them, (the funny little Jet van thing was a riot to me though!!), but the fact they they are helping out people who need the help. I like to see that kind of stuuf, good kharma you know??
I don't know the shoebox guy, and maybe he deserved it, but it seamed like he could have had it done up on his own. But I guess that's not the point of the show, I just thought it might be after the Chevy truck episode and the kid.
Just my $.02

I like the car just fine, paint and all. The wheels look way too big but if they were scaled down to 16", they'd look like nice hubcaps and that'd be fine with me.
Didn't see the show so I can't comment.

I'm with Frank finally something I can relate to on the BOOB tube. Its about cars yea haw. Also I think cool that they show what real car people are willing to go thru to get something ready for a dead line. How many times have we been up for many days straight and have the bags under our eyes like Chip? I have done it on more then once. I think Pimp my Ride is also cool like was stated before, for the people they help out. The cars aint my style but thats ok. my 2.75 cents...Danny

I like how they (TV folks) are doing shows with more old cars in it, Rides, Overhaulin, American Hot Rod, hell, even ride with Funkmaster Flex showed the Blink 182 drummer's nice Caddy collection. These shows are helping to poularized the street rodding hobby, and while most of use here don't consider ourselves "street"rodders, we still buy products from street rodder companys and we all benefit in the increase in popularity. and many of the people on this board confessed to being gold-chainers and billet-freaks. So who knows how many of the newfound streetrodders will see the light and come over to our side. Just my opinion, i could be wrong.

I'm a closet "pimp my ride" fan, too. The cars are horrendous, but they seem to fit the owners, which is what's important, and I like how they all seem to need a boost like that. Kinda bugged me how wealthy this guy was. Why not find some kid that saved up a few years to buy that shoebox and now has no dough to fix it up? I do like the interior, and the quality of everything looks great, but the wheels do suck (remind me of something on a big mopar in the late 60's- early 70's), and it sure could of been dropped a couple more inches!

Aside from the one "Pimpmobile" episode,
I thought "Rides" was very well done, and was well recieved here on the HAMB.
No yelling,no phoney Bullshit.
Some thought the narration was a little flat,
but the quality of the rest of the show more than made up for it,IMHO.
I'm sure "Overhaulin" sounded good on paper to the studio people,
but the cheap theatrics detract from the hard work put out by some of the best in the business.
How long before some of these "Overhaulin" cars show up on E-Bay?

The show had the most mechanical and body content of any yet and you guys STILL find reasons to bitch... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif Chip Foose is a cool guy, I'd like to work for him and learn a few tricks.
I'd have been pretty pissed off if my son did that to my car without any prior knowledge. I thought it was an amazing car before they touched it, but thats just me.

Fab32, that is the REASON we are so bitchy about these shows, this stuff is what we know and love. When they put stuff on TV that is cheesy or has discrepancies, we KNOW, and that bothers us because we would have done it different. I sit and wonder why TLC can't seem to find a car guy and car girl to host the show. That would be your or my dream job, right, but they give it to the "pretty people" instead.
Show me a show about boats or planes and I can relax, I don't know shit about them so I wouldn't know if the information was wrong. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I'm in agreement, I liked it. One has to remember that it's not aimed at the hardcore but more of a cross section.
I bet the concepts for this show and Cut, Chop, Rebuild were awesome but by the time it gets through the TV execs and the people that target shows for advertizing the result is something beige,
Personally, I'd like to see a show that chose a car and completed it during a series.

....ohh great now I gotta clean barf off of my keyboard....
Honestly, those are probably the worst "riams" ever. What the hell were they thinking? Old school flattie meets 2004 SUV..?..? It's like putting billet rims on an all origional Indian. Why do it? Just so that you can say you changed it?I don't get it.
At least it's an easy fix...."HEY CHIP, TOSS ME THE IMPACT DRIVER!!..WHIRR, WHIRR, WHIRR(time elapse)....Ahh, thats better." http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Not bad other than that - great for a seven day makeover. At least it's saveable....One more shoebox saved from the crusher anyways.
The saddest part is that this guy won't want to offend the "great" Chip Foose, so it'll probably stay that way. Ick! I just got the shivers....
I hope to god noone gets my car "Overhauled".....eesh. But talk about TV drama - would ball my eyes out - right before I stuck a screwdriver in his neck!!!

I can respect everyones opinion on this car - 98% of it is cool. But in two years it'll look outdated and just as ridiculous as a highboy with square headlights (I'd take one of those too http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif).
Ohh and I didn't think it was ever headed for the crusher, I am just saying that after being re-build from the ground up it should be good to go for another 50 years....Anyone who actually refinishes a car is a patron to the hobby's future.
I will say that I am glad he didn't try to faux patina the car or try to cause rust on purpose....I like the car,,,mostly,,,,kinda....
