I am almost positive that I have an early Dana 44 under my hudson with 3.08 gears. I am lookidg to get a posi unit for it, anyone know of a palce for 'em?

The rearend looks exactly like this, but I have yet to look for dana numbers or stampings on the axle.

4 wheel parts (http://www.4wheelparts.com/product2.asp?imseqn=1641&occlass=AUB&cat=DRI)

Not traditional hotrod stuff, but offroad places have lots of stuff for Dana axles. I have no idea if thats a good price.

I don't know what interchanges between all the different style dana 44's but I know they were common in post war willys wagons, 60's AMC muscle cars(scrambler, AMX, Javalin)
and on into the late 70's under ford f-100's. I had a dana 44 posi that came stock from the factory in a 77 Ford f-100 explorer package. I've got a dana 44 4:27 limited slip under in my 56 Willys wagon. Both of these came from ford with flanged axle shafts. The stock willys and early AMC axles had keyed/tapered axle shafts with seperate hubs. Check out some of the places that cater to early jeep owners for several diff. options in the D-44, and check the old willys wagons in the scrap yards for stump pulling/drag gears. Any ratio above 4:11 is hard to find in a stock willys axle, most were 4:27-5:56, not much good in a street driven vehicle but at the strip they'll either stand up or brake!!

I would like to keep the gears that are in it, but buy a new case to stick in a posi unit. FWIW the axles are tapered with keys, and the hubs are riveted to the drums. I will check on that willys/early jeep stuff. Maybe a call to a place like natinal drivetrain is in order.

I'm not 100% certain but I think thats a Dana 60 .Didn't the 44's have a round cover? Maybe I'm just senile.
