Any one know how to chop a 46-48 chevy fleetline. Street Rodder did an article years ago on how to do it but now no one there wants to help me. If anyone Has a copy or knows of any other articles on the subject please let me know.

I know of at least one guy on here, Eyeball, that did a really bitchin' chop on one of them - he'd be worth contacting.
Also, you should do an introduction before everyone gets their ass on their neck because you asked questions before anyone knows who you are.

No apologies...just post an intro that says who you are and what cars you've got.
Here's Eyeball's web page

While I am not an expert, I wouldn't recommend it. Every single chopped fleetline i have seen looks bad. To do it right would require MAJOR surgery. to get it to look right you would have to section the trunk section as well. The ones I have seen done use a pie cut with the big end of the pie at the front. While this would preserve the fastback-ness of the car, it makes the roof line look like it slops down in the front. to do it right you would have to cut say 2 inches out of the A pillars, 2.5 out of the B pillars and then make a pit cut starting at the back of the fron window and getting narrower all the way back to back of the car. The picture i attached shows it kind of exagerrated and the lines are straight(I'm at work, can't do much here), but you can get the jist of it. Hope this helps. Besides, they the fleetline already looks chopped, has a leaned back windshield, and forward slanting B pillars, What more could you want?

Eyeball's is a coupe, not a fleetline, they are fastbacks. But I agree, his chop is sexy.

the fleetline chops are REALLY hard to pull of from what I've seen, and I've never seen one that looked good without having to rework the trunk as stated above. I'm sure someone here has done it though. So if your set on chopping it, research the shit out of it before you start cutting or pay someone to do it right (mucho $$$$).
might wanna do the intro as a separate post, tell a little more about you and the fleetline (current state, and plans for it) and leave out the chevy luv part...

Gotcha...thought the fastbacks were fleetmasters or something like that. Don't know my Chevies that well. Who owned the tangerine colored fastback that was in all the magazines a couple of years ago? One of the Sultans, I think? That was a nice, subtle chop from what I could tell.

Fleetline = fastback
Fleetmaster = sedan
I think I know the one you are talking about, I think it too looked like the roof sloped down in the front some. I've been known to be wrong though

They are already chopped. If you measure the window opening on the door of a fleetline versus a coupe or sedan you would fine that the fleetline enjoys a 2" lower lid than the coupe.

i saw a BADASS chopped Fleetline FOURDOOR(!) http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif at the Detroit Autorama this year (it was a dark blue if anyone has a pic). though i'm sure it is definatley a very hard chop to "pull off" it CAN be done.

If anyone here needs a paint job jstorm is the guy you need to talk to. He has done 2 paint jobs for us at the shop, They were done in record time and were of exceptional quality. I might have to drive to Tennesse to get my next paint job http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

So you're in Tennessee and you paint.....hmmm.....
Wanna be more location-specific? Do I need to go piss on the trees outside my shop? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Good luck with the Fleetline--I think you can do it. A man with balls enough to admit Luv ownership knows few limits. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Work in Nashville, live in Smyrna. No need to mark your territory, we can work in the same town and still get along.

Well you know somebody who's a regular here, that get's you off the hook for the bad etiquette.
Now for the chop, I have a sedanette - that's Buick speak for fastback. I have the same issues with a chop. If you do it - it will look frikkin wild. Big drawback though - it's not for a begginer. You better pay someone else to do it. I would guess you are in the 4-5k range.
If you try it yourself you might consider looking at other carson top designs so after you completely fuck up a perfectly good top you know how to fix it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Please take this advise with a sense of humor - I have no idea if you have metalshaping skills so I am assuming you are a mortal man like most of us....
Here is a reason NOT to chop it....

Hey Glen, I e-mailed you awhile ago asking you all sorts of questions about your very badass buick. I got some more questions if ya don't mind. what kinda front suspension are ya running? and did you have to "C" the frame at all out back?
Thanks,
Eric
No the frame is not C-d in the back it is stock, the front frame rails were cut off at the firewall and new rails built out to the bumper bracket/frame horns, the crossmember was a 37-41 Ford MII setup.

hmmmm... I was thinking we would have the same frames, but eyeball's chevy looks like it was z'd alot. you can see it here (http://www.geocities.com/peechy55/Airbag2.html?949203006710). And i measured mine today and it looks like the body need to come down about 14/15 from where its at (next to no weight in it so its up pretty high) to be about the height of yours with the bags empty and there is only 12 inches from the frame to the axle.
