Well i cant figure this one out i have a 55 packard with the 352 v8 with a rochester 4bbl carb. Well i put a rebuilt one on and im running no choke right now,it starts fine when cold,I mean it starts on the first shot. But after i drive it for a while park it let it sit, then go back to start it all it does is crank. The only way i can get it to kick over i have to put my foot down on the gas pedal to get it to fire over, once it starts again it runs fine. Oh yeah it did it with the old carb to i replaced the old because the carb had a flat spot plus the shaft was worn...Any ideas...Thanks..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Sounds like it could be running a little rich, so that when you floor it you allow more air in and it starts. You may also need to mess with the timing a smidge.

You said you weren't running a choke, but do you have the choke valve (flapper) still on it? Have you wired it open?
I'm assuming this is a 4gc carb? Is the choke totally removed or just not hooked up?

You may be percolating the fuel, and the Rochesters dump into the airhorn from the vents. Your floats could be too high. Take it for a drive, and shut it off, watching the vents for fuel dripping after it's hot. If you see fuel, reset the floats. If you still see fuel, get an insulating gasket for it. When you have to hold the carb open to start it, it's usually because of flooding.

Thanks, Yes i have the choke wired opened and yes i have to give it gas to start...so it might be to due to the float level huh??? Oh yeah it is a 4GC 4bbl carb too
