A friend of mine bought this. They are the real deal original 289 competition cobra setup. He said he has only seen 2 complete setups and one other one incomplete he offered a guy 10K for. He also said that they were banned in 67 or 68 and everybody started using 4 barrels. So they became obsolete used racing parts in the 60's.
Also this setup was an option on the HiPo 289 for the Falcon or Fairlane but all the linkage and bracketry is completely different than the race version like this one.
He does have a 64 289 Cobra and has just purchased a 65 289 that has been modified.

A record price, http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif does anybody really give a shit.
Don't think they would show up on a HAMB'rs car.

Kinda brings to mind the saying "a fool and his money are soon parted". But it really is a case of what you want and what you can afford. I don't want - I can't afford.

I think the funny part is the second high bid was over a grand higher than the third bid and it was placed 50 seconds before closing but two minutes after the winner, I'll bet he's kicking himself in the ass for not watching the bid http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The second place bidder sniped the bid with 50 seconds to go, and the winner had a higher top bid already placed. The winner's bid didn't kick in until after the second guy placed his bid.

TRCO,ask your buddy if he wants another intake like that for a fraction of the price...
I have one that has been modified to fit Sidedraft Dellorto's
( could be repaired to mount the correct carbs again )
It was on a '70 style C cab T showcar.
For sale complete with carbs, filters and linkage.
P/M me...

Not unless somebody wants to built his version of the Manta Ray...
Of course finding the right prewar Masarati Grand Prix racecar chassis for that might be even more difficult and expensive... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Think about it guys.
$ 10,600 for a carb set up is all relative to a original cobra which is in the $ 250 - 500k range depending on small block vs big block.
In the 90's the big blocks were fetching $ 750 k to
1 Million. Cobra Daytona's in the 1-2 million range.
So in relative terms it's about the price of a fucking oil change to our daily drivers.
If you have to ask how much - you can't afford it.
Glad this is going on a period peice car instead of some
other P.O.S. ( piece of shit) car.
