I don't know what or if there's a difference but I got one off the wall at the Local Pep Boys "Chrome mud flaps and visor store" for a 70 Datsun and I've seen Grant wheels in early VW's (unless I halucinated) so there should be one that fits it in Grants catalog, but I can't getthe search to give me anything on VW at all. Guess I dont know the exact question to ask? I hate searches like that. "Sorry, nothing matched your search criteria "
Might be they just don't have the horn mechanism that's compatible or the flange isn't the right diameter but it seems to me if they have one with the same number of splines at the same angle it should go on.

Early VW Bus columns ('67 and earlier) have a key very similar to '40 Ford columns. Beetles from the era used keyed shafts on very early columns and somewhere along the line switched to splined shafts. I think the switch coincided with the change from flat to dished wheels which would be around '61 - sorry, not much of a Beetle fan, I stuck with buses and Porsches. IIRC, Porsches had keyed shafts through '59.
Anyway, I think the kit you need is the generic Marine kit. In the Jegs catalog it's number 470-3627-1
Quickie search turned it up Jegs Online (http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=130016&prmenbr=361)
Same exact kit from the T-Bucket folks
Total Performance (http://www.tperformance.com/street_rod_store/3200/grant_3-hole_steering_wheel_adapter/)
Worst case scenerio is that you have to find a VW bus wheel, cut the two spokes off, chuck it up in the lathe and take down the top of it and drill three holes for the Grant wheel. Buy any of the Classic series kits for the bell and horn button. If it comes to this, let me know and I think I can turn up a ratty bus steering wheel for you.
