Anyone else have pics of the Roach Rod during its construction???
On the ground you can see the '36 bones that I welded to the yoke I cut from the front Model A wishbone. I then removed the "ball" and welded a bung in the yoke that holds a 3/4" heim. I then welded a bracket off of the "drop" tranny x-member that holds the heim... works excellent!

Thanks,
Sam.

Hoop that holds the column and swing pedals... it is now part of the body... but was welded to the frame during cunstruction and then cut off:

Sam -

Do you have any pics of the way you tied the rear bones together at the front? I think you said you used a Model A wishbone yoke?

Also, did you use any sort of a torque arm or rod?

I was thinking of using something like this...

Do you think it is necessary?

Thanks,

Neal

Those links sound a great idea. The wishbones themselves weren't meant to absorb too much stress. That was the torquetube's job. Then again, there's 100's of cars running around with only wishbones holding the rearend in.

No, I just used the '36 bones I got from C9... they are about 1/8" wall material... and plenty strong.

I shortened them up and butt welded the A-bone yoke to tie them together...

I don't think I have any pics... but I'll look.

Here's how I tied the '36 rear bones together under my "A". I used the forged end/ball from a '40 front. The ball mount and cup are the original crossmember section from a '34. Don't have it on the road yet, but should within a month or so.

Cornfed's got it goin' on!

That's basically it... but I didn't reinforce it (I'm conducting a test to see how good of a welder I am) and I used a heim joint instead of the BALL.

Actually I got the idea from Alchemy's 40 sedan (that has yet to see the road after 20 years as a project ). I believe he first saw it in a mid 70's rod mag tech article.

Thanks guys.

I will see what I come up with this weekend. I plan to use a Model A yoke, since that is what I have.
