OK, The good news is that I isolated the squeak in the 389 in the GP. The bad news is the left bank upper valve train seems to be void of oil flow. I have pulled all the push rods and found two clogged but still not getting oil to the rockers. Lifters apear to be working OK. Any way to access a port to put air pressure to the oil passage without a major teardown? Seems as though I have a blockage somewhere as the right bank is oiling good. Not much time between now and Dewey. Any one got a quick fix.

I don't think there is an access point while fully assembled!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

You might be able to get to the lifter passages by tearing the top end apart other than that I feel that a partial to full teardown is nessesary...! (Sorry GV!)

That stuff worked for me on an old Poncho that sat for a long time. I don't really belive in the mechanic in a can approach but it did work to loosen up some sticky lifters.

Thanks for the response. Kind of confirmed my fears. I will try Rislone,of course the last car I used that in I found a cracked head after cleaning out all the crap that was keeping it from leaking http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif. Got nothin' to lose at this point, might be time to start a serious search for a 428 or 455 to build and do away with the "slim jim" hydro at the same time.

The good thing about the Poncho's are the motor mount anchor points for the old 389 were retained on the newer 455 cu. in. Engines!

Makes it an easy engine swap...!

And yes ..., Get rid of the 375 Slim Jim...! Since it does require the starter on the bell housing it'll be difficult to find a replacement!

However..., "Shifts" might have a trany (or a solution) that would work for you! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good Luck
