Walker Evans. He shot mainstream USA for 50 years. There are some great books of his work out there, don't know about sites.

You looking for a photo site to take a car to or just a typical store front to copy on your "Garagemajal"?
Just off the top of my head Id say you wold want a look like is around Salinas, CA.
Reason being, is, in the thirties lots of people left OK to go to CA and farm communities.
Places like Monterey or Folsom or Nevada City are 1850's gold rush looking buildings so that's too old for what you want.
Cities that were greatly expanded and mostly new construction in the thirties is what you want.
Maybe Cole knows of an unchanged, typical thirties store in Salinas?
I was there last year and know the main drag is/has been "Rejuvinated" so it's not "real" anymore but there's some business streets there just off the main drag that might be what you are looking for.

There are still some towns here in the Central Valley of California that look like time forgot them. Chowchilla is one I drove through for the first time about a month ago. Prior to that I just drove by on 99. Still looks pretty much like it must have in the 50's. There's even an old cotton mill there from the thirties. Neuman and Gustine are some others that come to mind. Even some parts of Bakersfield and Stockton are like that. Spend a little time off the main highways here in California and you can feel like you're in a time warp.

Try looking at postcards on Ebay.
Search various towns, years, use words like city street.
Lots of good images on Ebay.

Head South for the border and Burkburnett, Texas. It was very quaint and old-timey in the early '60s and didn't look as though it would change much in the forseeable future, as in not ever.
Root, sounds like you and I are in the same place in planning our dream shop/house. Carla and I are slaving over every little detail to truly make the place something special. We have a cool car dealership bldg here that was built in 26. I think it might have the look you are after, I will try to snap a digi for you.
