My good pal Dave Shuten was in town with his new bubbletop doing a photo shoot and stopped at the house for a visit. Well anyone that knows Dave knows he doesn't go anywhere without his one shot and has a tough time NOT laying paint on something.

I didn't even have my coat off and Dave was taking the door off the hinges, laying it on the table and within a matter of a minute or two had this sketched and was painting away. Took him a total of 4 hours from start to finish.

I thought folks here would appreciate his work so I'll post a few photos for your viewing pleasure.

That brush that your pal is using in the pic what size/make is it ....

Looks like a standard "art store" lettering brush. I can find 'em at any similar store, with various bristles. They don't load up enough paint to pull much of a line.

I think the last ones I grabbed were the Utrech brand. Couple bucks each. I cut the handles down, so I can't be sure...

'49 Merc with a '54 Chrysler grill, bumper and park lights, something
you won't see very often on a '49-'51 Merc...then I thought what the
heck lets put in a road sign...it did not turn out like I wanted it to..
but it was ok so I posted it.

Sean:Is that the short wheelbase car? A friend of mine in Massachusetts had done a restoration many years ago on one of his cars.In the era of super long wheelbase machines(220-plus inches)this one was only 185 inches. He didn't campaign it very long as it wasn't really all that successful.Just curious.

Safariknut, I am not sure about the wheelbase on this car. I worked off old photos and magazines. Trying to find a good angle for a long thin dragster for a t-shirt is a challenge. Before I did this shirt I never knew this car existed. It's so unlike any of his other cars, it's just not black with white block letters, it's actually has some style.

I bet it is the car.The guy who restored it(Paul Burns from Motor Inc.)had his own AA/FD (The Spirit of 76)and marveled at the construction details of the car.One of the things that fascinated him was the gas pedal.Made from a piece of 4130 small diameter tubing,it weighed next to nothing but was designed so that your foot fit through it and allowed you to pull back on the throttle if it should stick for any reason. This was before Don lost part of his foot in that flywheel explosion that cut his car in half.

Paul liked the idea as he had experienced a stuck throttle and a kill switch malfunction simultaneously in the Spirit at Lebanon Valley Dragway once. When the tires finally hooked up,the front end of the car shot skywards(at about 150mph)and dug the pushbar into the track. With the rear wheels an estimated 2 feet off the ground the motor grenaded and the car came back down and broke in two.Paul was burned pretty badly even with the fire suit on.

There was a picture of the car that some photographer had snapped as the car was full up in the air that was published in Popular Hot Rodding.By careful measuring,it was determined that the car was at approximately an 85 degree angle.Paul had a huge poster made of the picture and it hung on the wall in his shop for many years.

Seriously ... I want to thank each one of you for contributing to one of the best weekly posts on the HAMB. I look forward to this each week and am constantly amazed at the talent here. Hot Rod art is such a key part of what all of us enjoy. You guys rule!! Thanks for 52 weeks of cool art.

I am amazed at the talent that any artist has, and especially you all on this site.

Jigger, your cards are of Hallmark quality. Too bad they do not ask you to do a segment for them.

And Tingler, looking at yours takes me back to when I was a kid wanting to buy the cool shirts they used to sell in car magazines. In fact, they take me back so well, I think I will go beat up my brothers and sisters just like we used to do when we were young. Good being the oldest boy of 7 kids.

You pinstriping geniouses, I still cannot see how you line those mirror images up or get all the lines to end up in the right place.

And to think I used to pay no attention to art class teachers 'cause I never saw a reason for learning art!!!!

Happy Holidays to you magnificent artists and your families!

Your artwork is amazing. Do an intro in the intro section and tell us alittle about yourself. I'm very interested to know if your artwork is used for these resin like casts of cars I've seen that look EXACTLY like your artwork, about 8 inches square cars, very heavy when you hold them, mostly tuners. I've seen them at finer gift shops and almost bought a very cool looking '70's VW bus. Were your renderings used by chance for theses?

Your artwork is amazing. Do an intro in the intro section and tell us alittle about yourself. I'm very interested to know if your artwork is used for these resin like casts of cars I've seen that look EXACTLY like your artwork, about 8 inches square cars, very heavy when you hold them, mostly tuners. I've seen them at finer gift shops and almost bought a very cool looking '70's VW bus. Were your renderings used by chance for theses?

Thanks! and Nope, those aren't mine but I know what you're talking about. I actually hadn't ever seen them until I stopped by a car museum while on vacation last weekend. Think this is the spot?

God - this is a good week. I'll have to hound my dad - he was supposed to scan my latest for me...

Gabo - what do you have against noses?

Just kidding man - that last one is the coolest yet (for me anywho).

And another new guy with talent (GPSkinzhut), sheesh - PLEASE keep coming back....even though the cars are too new, lol.

I'm frothing at the mouth fellas - Merry X-mas!!!

Got Zach to paint that for my dad, the sign holder is from the 40's or 50's... but we never had an insert... Dad's been talking for a while about painting an insert ourselves or getting zach to do one...

Thanks buddy, it looks great! Dad will be very happy...

Amazing stuff as usual. Was flicking through a mag while having dinner the other day and found a feature on Tingler's art - it inspired me to try a quick scribble and see if i could come up with anything. This was the result, although it took a few goes at getting anything faintly like a face. Sorry if it brings the standards down to earth like a sack of spuds - I should probably stick to bashing bits of metal about!

couldnt resist messing up the 3 window with some old lettering. (looks much better in person) - it'll be sanded off soon for fresh shiny new paint.
the car sits here at the shop, cant wait for some dork to say: ooooh this is where the old outlaw ended up. i used to watch that car run B/GAS at the strip. HAAAAAAAA!

Did I make,"Last Call"? A couple of older piedes:

The tailgate on my son's old truck(ca.'96);a take on a Metallica album cover.

My old mailbox.

A couple of 1/24th scale panel trucks.

A not-quite-so-old-fart striping on his future wife's Sunbird ca.'92
