...BIG DOG STYLE OF RACEING WHERE YOU RUN EVERY ROUND FOR POINTS.
ABOUT 300 A NIGHT IN PRIZZZZEEEE MONEY ----- GAS ANT CHEEEPPP
Sure ain't none of my business but...WHY??
Seems like a good way to take "econo" out of the picture. Also it has the potential to turn the HA/GR cars into high priced cookie-cutter cars. Aluminum center sections in the rear axle to save weight. Lite-weight aftermarket spools and axles should help just a tad too. A 'moly' chassis will likely be necessary to gain a competitive edge, --and as soon as the combination is figured out on which engine (slant 6?? maybe) makes the most big end Hp., then all competitive cars will be switching to that combination. Where is the diversity, --or "Spirit" in that??
How long will it take before someone realizes that a 4-speed Lenco will be just the ticket with the 6" tire? By putting in a 'deep' low gear the car will launch with minimal tire slippage, ...and with a 'soften-upped' clutch pack between the 1-2 shift, you keep the momentum and lessen the chance for a missed shift. Then if you can build a "billet bullit" on the inside with aluminum rods and flowed head & manifold, you can really buzz the engine making lots of horsepower on the big end where the tire size won't be as critical to traction. Now since we are going to be needing to extract high-rpm Hp, we better send our vintage carb to Barry Grant for a "flog".
Now I will admit that those Series meets are probably going to be limited to "players" that live close by Tulsa, but now the potential is there for the "series players" to travel to Indy and Texas where the other "sportsman players" don't have a chance. This is about the point where the term "fun" starts to leave the scene and former (now un-competitive) HA/GR entrants stay home, ...because "GAS A(i)NT CHEEEPPP".
To me it is one thing if a track promotor wants to pay 'tow money' for all cars that show up because this helps pay the gas bill for everyone (which BTW OK has some of the cheapest gas prices going). So, in a nutshell, ...I ain't 'buyin in' on the pitch that gas ain't cheap so you need a Series that pays money.
Just my meagerly 2 cents. I don't know if others share my sentiments but again I ask the question "WHY"???

Well Brent I'll tell you why the Ram Rods are going to do it. First it going on in our back yard, Second we want to run more than once a year. I know the Hamb drags will expand but they will be in Az,Calif or somewhere back east and we probably wont be able to travel that far. We all are just a bunch of old guys some retired that are havin alot of fun on a the best budget we can do. Racing cost money no matter what kind it is and there will always be someone who has more than anybody,Oh Well.
As far as the potential to turn these cars into cookie cutter cars with moly and aluminum rods, deep low gear and soften-upped clutches thats already been done.

OK Thanks Mr. Mac, ...I understand your rationale now. You did proved my point to the 'T' though. A couple of things that does have me curious.
You said there is a bunch of guys that are wanting to field cars that are on a "budget". What is the attraction to pay $300.00 for one to win (and everyone else goes home w/ nothing) when there are a bunch of teams (your buddies) that all could use that money? Instead, you could spread that same $300.00 out to each team that participates and give "tow money" for attending. If a team needed more 'capitol' to play with, --that team could go get a couple of local sponsors to make up the extra money? With the "buzz" these cars are generating (both on and off the track) it won't be hard to get a parts store, or a used car dealer, or any small business to come up with a $250 - $300 per month sponsorship! Sure seems like a great way to take some pressure and/or stress off by not having to beat the next guy just to gain that extra point or win that gas money to get home on.
2nd, in my experiences with exhibition racing, when there is no points or money to be won, if someone pushes the rules across the line, most of the other competitors generally make comments in jest but no one gets bent out of shape with the rule infraction. So now that money/points are involved, who polices the rules to make sure everyone stays within the boundaries? Where does the politics start & end?

Sounds like fun to me . Its 637 miles from Indy to Tulsa and the hauler gets 10-11 mpg ( diesel) We might be able to make a couple of these events.
Thats half the way to Bonneville. :) :)

flatheads arent cheap, sixes arent cheap... most sportsmen would rather sink money into a fox body or A body with a small block and run 2-3 seconds faster than the fastest HA/GR, on practically the same budget.
id also be willing to bet that a fellow with more money to burn than all of us combined would be bored to death after a season... i just dont see high dollars being a factor in HA/GR.
regarding a cash prize, id just sink the money back into the race car... maybe it could help pay for a brand new 97, or machine a block, buy materials to port/relive a block... its cool.

Guys, myself and 4 friends are building a HA/GR dragster because it looks like it will be fun. Three of us ran a NHRA rear engined alcohol dragster for several years and got tired chasing our tail (and spending $$$$$) trying to go faster. Been there/done that, and now we want to have fun with a car that we can all drive, and BS with the other guys with the same style of car. When we were at MoKan this fall and watched the HA/GR's run, and talked to the guys with the cars, we were sold on the class as something we could have fun with. I will say, building this 321 inch Jimmy isn't exactly cheap or easy.

Well I can find a hotel, but without an enclosed trailer, keeping the carout overnight becomes a problem.

Hi! Brent, we raced an HA/GR with a stock, straight 6 out of a car, without even pulling the valve cover or oil pan, not even a spark plug, and had a ball, but some just don't get it. But if you get over this way, welcome to the Tulsa area. If you watch these cars run you will grin.

Thanks guys. Both choices could be fine. I guess keeping it at the track would save running it back and forth. I'm pretty lazy.
