It's kinda on topic... it's General Motors, right? I've been all over the net and I can't find any information on a fridge I picked up, and I know a lot of you guys on here are into other vintage shit as well. We had a clean out day this week, and me and a few friends found an old Frigidaire out on the corner in good shape... only problem is the paint is old, but that's it. Sucker pluged right in and works great. I can't find a date on it at all... looks early 50's. Anyone have any links or good books for finding out about these? It's pretty kick ass. Thanks,...

I know nothing except that I've felt sick every day for sending an old Admiral to the dump because I had no way to haul it home. I'd definitely like to know more about restification of old appliances. I'm adding this to my favorites.

Nothing here also, but it's interesting how the 50's frigs are so similar to the cars of the times. Do not 50's frigs have the hinged handle, like on a 49 Merc? And the curved shape of the refrigerator door would be the same as a car roof, rounded corners and all.

I have a 1950 Frigidaire.
I don't have a handy picture, but it has one door and a big horizontal chrome handle on the left. There is a large round bezel behind the handle.
Search the web for "vintage fridge".

That sounds JUST like the one I've got. I'll post some pictures later. These suckers worth anything? It's too cool to sell though...

I think that Tuck was/is into "fixing" up those old fridges so he could have some good info for you.

Here's mine, sitting in the garage, waiting to be cleaned and installed (that black band is the appliance dolly strap). I have a restored 1950 Gaffers & Sattler gas stove to accompany it. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif The kitchen is this summer's project.

That's exactly it, Haring. I got the same one... yours looks a little bit cleaner, but that's what I've got. Thanks.. at least I know what year I have and can look it up a bit more. There are a LOT of old stove sites, but fridges are a little more rare it seems. I'll get some shots of the inside... it's pretty clean as well. Amazing.. it was just going to be tossed to the dumps.
Amazingly, we also scored a piano... it's a bit out of tune, but after doing some research on it I found out it's from the UK and probably made in around 1905... another piece to be smashed and junk. Saving some history!

Haring...that's identical to the Frigidaire that I built a luggage trailer out of. I pulled it behind my T-bucket for a few years. I also have a 1942 GE fridge that I've gutted and use for parts storage in my shed. One of these days I plan to paint it.
