Everything I've read in my (dated) literature about the small block Chevrolet says that you can't beat the Edelbrock Tarantula for street performance. My Dad has one on his '69 Corvette and little brother wants one for his 350 if we can find one. I've tried the classifieds here and checked ebay but I'm striking out. So I thought I'd ask here... what does Edelbrock make today that's equivalent to the now out-of-production Tarantula? Torker II? Vic Jr.?
Thanks.

Woha, just saw how badly I misspelled "successor!" Sorry 'bout that.

The Tarantula was an early-'70s single-plane intake. Here's one on a rat:

Current Edelbrock single-plane intakes for mice (and rats) include the Victor, Victor Jr., and Super Victor.

Yeah, but which of those makes the bottom-end torque like the Tarantula? As I said, the Tarantula was very streetable - my dad's LT-1 goes like stink and except for the super-heavy three-finger clutch, is very driveable.
Check the Torker manifold. #5416

The Torker II is probably closest, although still not identical. I had both in my SBC stash a few years ago and they looked very similar, but the Torker II had a sligtly more 'refined' look.
I actually RAN the Torker II on a small block and was very impressed. It pulled harder than the Performer it replaced and killed off just enough of the low end grunt to help the car launch better without shredding the tires...but the midrange pull more than made up for it!
The Tarantula just got kicked around my garage till I gave it to the kid down the street along with a host of other small block Chevy junk. He MAY have used it on his Camaro...but he's in the military now, so I'll have to wait till he's home on leave to ask him if he still has it or what he did with it!
