Looking for some help with air bags. I just bought a 1950 Ford and I want to bag it. I'm not going to be doing three wheel turns, bouncing it or any of that minitruck shit...I just want bags.
Can someone point me in the right direction on good components and/or kits? Do I need two compressors? The box with all of the switches?
I'm a FNG...I need all the help I can get! Thanks!
I would help you, but all I know how to do is "that mini-truck shit"...

you'll probally just want two switches, a front and a back. don't really need a switch box for 2 switches. could even do manual valves. youll probally want 2 compressors and at least seven gallons of air tank. dont run half inch line and valves, because it WILL be too fast. either mono leaf it with a panhard in back, or four bar it. depending on how low you want to go, you might want to notch the frame in the rear. in front on a shoebox, you can flip the shackles for an easy couple of inches drop.

I used to have a mini-truck...back in the eighties...
But I have, for a short while longer, anyway......a '50 F-1, and it has bags on all four corners.......I have one compressor and two switches....a switch for the front pair and a switch for the rear pair...... Recently, I installed an adjustable 400 psi pressure switch...it keeps the tank at about 200 psi.....
The 3/8th inch airlines are all I need for a fairly quick lift...not too fast....at least nothing John Law is going to notice at an intersection.....

Last time I was at the Poodle, some guy stabbed the bouncer and the bouncer...I swear to god...looked at his stomach, wiped some blood off and then kicked the shit out of the guy who stabbed him. In fact the bouncer bit the guys ear off! But then again...some of the dancers could have done the same thing!

Thanks for all the great info, guys!
Is there a certain brand out there that is better? I was told that they are making a bunch of cheap shit kits and to watch out for that...unfortunately, I don't know my ass form a whole in the ground when it comes to airbag systems!

more help?....anyone?
Okay, I'll help. But it is against my better judgement.
Brackets: www.suicidedoors.com (http://www.suicidedoors.com) they're cheap and made from the same steel as everybody elses (hope you don't mind writing a check to a mini-trucker).
Bags, compressors, shocks, fittings, vlaves and airline: www.deviouscustoms.com (http://www.deviouscustoms.com) Good prices, great service.
other sources: www.mastreimagecustoms.com (http://www.mastreimagecustoms.com) Same parts as the rest, really good prices.
Good luck with your S-10.... er, um I mean ShoeBox.

hey man i can get you a whole kit 4 bags brackets hoses manual valves compressor tank fittings 1/4" lines and valves is 980.00 and the 3/8 kit is 1200.00
Um, yeah, uh, MIC is "out of business". I don't think you'll have any luck there. And take mini-truckers' advise when it comes to bags...they may be jotos, but they know bags.

There is a shop in Florida called R.A.W. that does good work. I do lots of air suspensions as well as Body drops etc.. and there are certain brands that are much better than others. The best valves are GC, but Herions or Parkers are good valves as well. If M.I.C. is out of business their is no one else that makes good manuel valves.
1/4 inch line is a waste of time, it will be painfully slow. 3/8 is the way to go, not to fast but not slow as christmas. If you run monoleaf in the back you do not need a panhard bar, the springs will do that job. I use only Firestone or Slam specialties bags. Contitech are supposed to be good as well but I've never used them. Any bag with the metal band around the top will give you trouble eventually. All the stuff I've seen from suicidedoors has been good. Also if you run compressors it is really worth it to shell out the extra cash for the big 100% duty Firestone compressor. We won' even install the 317's anymore because we have to much troube with the reed valves in them going out. I've had the big Firestone in my suburban for over 4 years and it has never had any probs.
Good places to get parts www.ifcustoms.com (http://www.ifcustoms.com) or www.ekstensive.com. (http://www.ekstensive.com.) Bill at Ekstensive Metalworks is a genious and has done many old rides. Avoid Aim industries at all costs, it's almost all trash. Alot of people have had trouble with stuff from FBI.com as well.
Hope this helps. Feel free to pm me or email me at cfore@bryanisd.org.
I might be a Joto, but I am not the one who noticed Cameron's Butt Knob... On a lighter note, Master Image is still in business. They just moved to Laguna. They were actually bought out by a HUGE air ride distributor and now their prices are even lower and they have a ton of stuff in stock.
You sure 'bout that? Check your link again...
And the knob was definitely meant for you.

Bags? "We don't need no stinking bags!" http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I knew they got bought out...I was on the owner's list of "who to call today and tell them I'm now a millionaire and retiring" the day the papers were signed. I hadn't heard of what transpired with the new corp. owners, so I apologizes for spreading any false news. Regardless, Minitruckers are still jotos, but they know bags!

Ok, I am a FNG when it comes to bags as well. But my ?? is why do some comp. sell their kits with shocks and other dont?? How would I determine the size of shock needed once I install the bags. Would it be the same as I have now?, I dont think so..any advice is appriciated. I probably should have asked you speedracer, but I felt like I already asked you a bunch of dumbass ??'s...
No kits come with shocks, usually just bags, valves, line, sometimes fittings, sometimes compressors and tanks. Brackets, shocks, and model specific stuff are not included.
For shocks just install your bags and set the ride hieght you want with your bag brakets then measure the distance from fully colapsed to fully extended and get a shock that allows the full travel. If your bagging to go lower you probably want to relocate your shocks to they don't bottom out like the stock location probably will.
As mentioned before Jason @ www.suicidedoors.com (http://www.suicidedoors.com) has cheap, good quality parts such as bags, brackets, valves, shock relocators, etc.
http://www.bagginit.com/tech.html has diagrams on wiring and basic bag knowledge, seems to help some new people to bags.
4 valves in my opinion handles like crap due to air transfer, I'd get 8 valves personally.
Stay away from anything from AIM.

I agree 100% also, you must run seperate valves for each front corner to get it to lift up level, and so there is no air transfer between the bags when cornering. You can get away with running 2 valves for the entire back. I have bagged both of my 1950 Ford tudors and on the first car I ran 8 3/8" SMC valves with 1/2" line, 2 Firestone/ or Thomas 120 compressors, and a 5 gallon. The car was more than fast enough, and I had plenty of air from gallon if you don't play with it too much. On my 50 now, I ran just 2 valves in the rear, and it is exactly the same speed for lift and dump as before. Don't run manual valves. That's old skool shit. Hack shack in Ontario has some good prices. If I think of more I'll let you know... If you kave any questions, just email me @ chopt50@msn.com

If you set the rear end up with a 2-link (works like a ladder bar setup) You will not need seperate valves for each side. The links keep the vehicle level. This does give you less body roll but also has inherently less articulation for negotiating steep drives etc... at an angle. This is generally not a prob on slammed rides cause we avoid that shit anyways. It is also much easier to place the gags forward on the links with this system which results in a much better ride and more lift than when the bags are placed over the axle. Just depends on your driving habits and needs as to which way is better for you.
Yeah, I spelled it wrong. it is www.masterimagecustoms.com (http://www.masterimagecustoms.com)
