View Full Version : VLV
As a car enthusiast and observer, I would like to know who the jerk-offs were that were doing burn-outs and speeding across the parking lot at VLV next to a thousand spectators. One person in an early 60's candy green ford truck with American mags - nice truck - but was next to a father with his daughter. This is unsafe and STUPID. If you want to do this kind of thing - do it on an open and deserted road where no one can get hurt. You are only making a fool of yourself. What can be done to prevent this child play next year? Motorcycles - new jesse james style bikes - this is a pre '63 hot rod car show! Next thing that will try and show up will be some punks in a rice burner.I can only imagine all the hard work Axle and the Shifters put into this show. It only gets bigger and better - if that's possible - every year. Let's keep it the way it was meant to be and many thanks Axle for a really great show!

I agree that Eddy has something coming for not posting an intro But if this years Viva was anything like last year then I also agree with him.
Last year two guys decided to drag race down the aisles between everyone’s cars. Didn't bother me that much the first time, I thought it was cool. The second time they both stayed in the gas a little longer. The third time the sedan got loose about three feet away from my car. That’s when I got a little concerned. I agree that people should be smart enough to stay out of the way of moving cars but when my car is parked and is still in danger of being taken out at a car show by people that I would assume love hot rods as much as I do. It put me a little on edge.
If anyone else remembers this feel free to tell me about it from your perspective.

As it was my 1st time at vlv I had high expectations. It was cool, but I have to agree with this guy on the FACT that the CARELESSNESS was out of hand. (the motorcycles were another thing but the SWEET non EVO"S made up for that issue) I might not have cared so much if I personally didnt have to litterally grab my wife and sister out of HARMS way because of this behavior. I am down for burnouts, races, ect at shows but not in the FUCKING DISPLAY AREA of the show. I almost ran some kid in a gocart over in the LOWER parking garage area that was behind my truck because I couldnt see him behind my truck due to lack of a flag or some sort of safety device.
BLOODSHED is fine as long as it isnt at the hands of another. I would have litterally drug any fucker behind my truck down the strip if they shed any blood of my familys.
BTW - SHIFTERS thanks for the show had a blast

Yeah... I see what you are saying. I mean, I used to go to shows, do burn-outs, buy some Def Leopard t-shirts and drag race between the cars.
But, now that I am older and more mature, I usually find a parking spot somewhere near the vendors, park my ride and proceed to steal all of the billet parts and accessories that I can fit into my poor excuse of a street rod!
Funny how he came straight to the HAMB to scold the culprits....
Yeah, we are the bad guys fucko....

That is precisely why this show is fun... Dad can take his daughter to a boring gold chainer street rod show next time where he'll be safe cuz the only burnouts at those showe are when a car slips as it is being loaded onto its trailer.

I saw people hoppin and jumpin to keep from gettin hurt. It'll happen one year (something bad)and then we won't have a show anymore.

Just for the record, the car show is Saturday and ends at 5:00 on Saturday afternoon.
What happens Friday night and Saturday night after 5:00 is not the car show!
The Shifters cannot police the area all weekend. They do a great job of keeping the hoodlums in check during the day.
What I mean to say is, if you saw that stuff, you weren't at a car show. You were hanging out with a bunch of drunk hot rodders.
Am I saying it was right that they were being reckless? I am saying that next year bring the family to the car show.

If you want to be part of the drunkards, sorry "crowd", then go to VLV, about 99% of the people at the carshow, don't have an old car and are a bunch of posers anyhow.
If it's your first time going to VLV then, don't go back! Even at Paso there are a few losers that ruin it for everyone else. I actually hate how the whole VLV is just a "show". Last year I told myself, I'd only got for the carshow and leave, but I didn't get out there at all. Yes, it does get a bit dangerous, If you have a six year old, a you see a mass of people drinking their asses off. Why would you stay and endanger the life of your kid?? I'm having a good time just seeing all the photos posted without having to sweat the time, money, and worrying about my car breaking down on the way.
Also WTF who the hell are you to start your first post complaining?
Why don't you join one of them gold chainer roundtable forums?

Eddy, you miss the point of hotroding entirely. An enthusiast is a person who buys a vehicle and enjoys it occasioaly and an observer is one who stands on the sidelines and does not participate. Given this discription of yourself I am quite sure you do not understand what is truly going on here. We are not merely "enthusiasts or observers," we are acivists and hotrodders. We participate by doing and enjoying.
The Shifters car club has a reptuation of anti-social activity. Fuck the Blessing of the cars and the reasons for generating such a show comes to mind, and therefore attract the same element to their shows. Not to mention this was a FREE SHOW where anyone could come in and have fun. When you have such open access and lack of rules anything can happen.
As to my exploits,, did you notice the spectators parted the way and the people on the sidelines were encouraging such "unsafe" activity? I bet you forgot that part didn't you.
Your worried about unsafe activity??? Take a walk up one of the side streets on the strip or walk in front of a cab near one of the hotels. I would rather take my chances with the mayhem on Saturday night, burning tires, dragging bumpers, thrown beer cans and bottles, alchohol and drugs.

So when did doing burn-outs in a parking lot, and drag racing in a PARKING LOT, stop being POSING?
If your car's fast you know it without getting squirly in a crowd of people.
Standing burnouts hurt no one. But drag racing in a parking lot is gay. I actually can't think of anything gayer at the moment. That's the ultimate Greaser kit, cuffed jean, pompadorable, posuer LOOK-AT-ME kinda gayness.

Oh God here goes another one! Yes Eddy needs to have an intro. But also I don't agree with being reckless. I dont care if you think they should not have there kid there or whatever other stupid arguement you may have. Murphy's law people. But yes this stuff happens everywhere and at every show and yes goldchainer shows too!
Actually this reminds me of a show a couple years ago. All these guys with there small blocks chevys(because thats all they know how to work on) were doing burnouts going out the parking lot. One of the guys hollered at me and said "Roast em" or something of that sort.
I replied "I don't need to prove myself, i have a big block"
You should have seen the look on there faces! That was better then any response given to the burnouts, LOL http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well said.
I second.
The guys racing down the rows of cars last year were a highlight. Yeah, my car wasn't in that row, but I really found it refreshing in a culture that's giving me less credit for being able to look out for myself while expecting me to fit into some other person's idea of what a reasonable risk is.
Eventually, someone is going to think our whole pasttime is an unreasonable risk. Let's hope that person ain't makin' the rules at the time.

Hey, I grew up in Detroit. It's a really cool city with lots of fun things to do and see.
But there's places you shouldn't be at when the street lights come on...
If you think its dangerous, don't go, Dork.
Highlights from past shows:
1st or 2nd year of the car show: Some idiot doing a burnout, lost control and slammed head on into a wall.
The next year we were up in the lot on saturday night and heard (and felt) a dull thud. We looked over to see some dude getting off the ground from doing a faceplant against the retaining wall while taking a piss. His buddies dragged him away, bleeding from the forehead ("Oh, don't worry he does this all the time.)
The same night. Guy in 60's muscle car gets goaded, by my fiend calling him "pussy", into hitting his line lock and doing a 1-2 minute burnout covering the entire Gold Coast in smoke.
year before last: 2 chicks in "rat rods" are chasing each other all over the 2 levels of the old garage and nearly lose it several times.
This year actually seemed kinda tame...

I have no problems with the burn outs and racing around, these cars were built to run.
What I have a problem with is people dropping their air bags and intentionaly dragging their frames and bumpers on the concrete. The physical damage they cause is going to piss off the Gold Coast after a while, and not allow the car show to continue. If you can run it low, run it low... just don't fuck up the parking garage, that is just fucking ignorant.
I know, I know, the burn outs leave black tire marks every where, but they don't physically damage the concrete. Go fuck up the city streets, that is what taxes are for.
