I lived in Jersey for 6 years before moving here in Cali. I mean no disrespect to say that the swells in New Jersey suck ballz. Unless you travel to Surf, wind surf or, whatever I would not call myself a surfer floating around on a surfboard in any Jersey shore. my .02

Steve, I have some photos of what you call my "ol skool rod". Would you be so kind as to give me some info on how to upload them onto this post? I did a search, is photobucket the best way or is there another? Help me out if you could... By the way, to chevnut and chopperkid13, if you guys do surf and don't know about the east coast in the fall (hurricane season) and winter, then there is nothing left to say.

I know that this isn't the right board for it, but a I mentioned it, so here it is. I built it 11 years ago ( with the help of 2 buddies, wiring, timing, and some misc other stuff) and lost it to fire shortly after being done. It had a 8 over front end and was a real eyesore. The fire gave me a chance to build it the was a really wanted it. As is, paint and all for the last 9 years. Runs like a champ, only problem is that the rear tire expands a rubs the fender at speeds in excess of 100mph. Right now it is down bc I'm switching over to a belt primary and waiting for some parts in the mail.http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p122/xpittsx/bike.jpg

I think you found the longest most difficult way to "skin the cat" as it were with that chop.

I think your bike is okay, but kinda cookie cutter. No offense, but it looks like ever other bob you ever see.

I also think that you have a pretty severe attitude that screams that you've got something to prove.

Maybe you should just take a few steps down the tough guy ladder and get back to talking about bikes and cars instead of trying to prove you're a hardassed greaser?

I'm sure that the same thing could be said about some hot rods... but not all.

Bobbers in general tend to be a very cut and dry cookie cutter scene. You just don't see a lot of innovation in that community. Is that bad? Not necessarily. I just think it's a little bland. But what would I know? I'm more into bikes built for performance. ;)

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.

Except the quote is, "Sarcasm I now see to be, in general the language of the devil" the actual quote that yours comes from is "the pun is the lowest form of humour". How the two came to be confused is obscure. It has been shown that sarcasm and irony ome from the highest functions of the brain, so it may be that sarcasm requires more intelligence, though it's usually used to attempt to cut down those of lower intelligence...

There's one thing to be said about having a style... there's another to have a cookie cutter.

Just the fact that you're getting your panties in a bunch because someone didn't hop onto your nuts about your bobber gives me the impression that you know I'm right.

Cafe bikes have that "look" because it's part of the performance over the bike. Believe it or not, having your handlebars above your head isn't exactly a step in the right direction if you are building a performance minded machine. ;)

As for choppers, I wouldn't exactly say Jesse James' bikes are cookie cutters. You show me how many people you know thatb uild up the entire bike based on their own designs.

As for "jap" bikes, they can look however they want to look considering they will outperform any chopper or bobber you ever see. ;)

Aesthetics or performance is the name of the game. When you build a bike that is meant for aesthetics (like a chopper or bobber) there tends to be a very set formula for the build.

Performance tends to be the other way around.

I agree with you about the mail slots comments though. I dislike them too.

Were you alive when greaser culture was rampant? Judging by the "old tymers" comment, I'd bet not.

Guess you're not a real greaser then. Just someone who is copping what you read in a book about a culture from a past generation.

That's the problem with younger people nowdays.

The 50's had greasers.

The 60's had hippies.

The 70's had disco.

Since then, there hasn't been a real unifying culture for younger people. So what do most younger people do? They try to copy the culture from the past. The greasers who are 19, the "punk rocker" who are in their early 20's, and the 18 year old hippes of 2006.

Identity crisis is the new culture I guess.

How would I have done it to look better? Well, to start with, I'd learn to weld. ;) As for my comment about the ride looking decent, I wasn't talking about the chop, Ace. I was talking about the entire car. I'm not that big a fan, that's all.

To all you homo-phobes...

"For those males without an existing homosexual orientation or a proclivity to
develop one, the experience of same-sex abuse can be a damaging in other ways.
The abuse can generate confusion about sexual orientation and produce impair-
ments in sexual functioning based upon uncertainty about sexual identity
(Dimock, 1988; Gill & Tutty, 1997; Lisak et al., 1996; Mendel, 1995). Some
men deal with these feelings by engaging in stereotypically hyper-masculine
activities such as interpersonal violence or may adopt a markedly homophobic
attitude. Many experience later disturbed intimate relationships and an increased
potential for substance abuse (Dimock, 1988; but see Sarwer, Crawford, &
Durlak, 1997)." (Foote & Goodman-Delahunty, 1999, p. 10)

Johnny Black, I'm going to be over at the Jockey Journal soon. We'll talk there. Thanks for the welcome!

ments in sexual functioning based upon uncertainty about sexual identity

I'm in my mid 30's and I think i'm a true gearhead.you know everyone has told their mom they loved them at one time or another. If I told you that it's GHEY to tell mom you love her would it make someone mad? You bet. why? because all of us has done it. just like all of us on here have posted an intro and we didn't do it with an attitude. stick around and let the forum help you out with your ride. trust me it will and I'm not sure about Jersey but If I make it back up that way maybe we can run over to hells kitchen and grab some grub together.later steve

I hated intros when I was in grade school, high school, college, and employment. I stated MY OPINION, something people can't seem to accept. Never said everyone else's intro was ghey/lame. Lotsa people talk, but never want to hear what others have to say, or can never accept another's point of view but their own. LAME-ASS FRATERNITY MENTALITY GROUP THINK! Now ets get to talkin about these ghey cars!!!

yer right rebstew, just kinda chaps my ass when people start into all the "i'm more hardcore about this then you "crap.who cares, right? i've always been into 4x4's before bein more exposed to the hot rod scene.now i'm gettin into bikes too.does that make me less of a gearhead.i work in a junkkyard, have a bunch of cars and a couple of trucks, raced on ande off road, been in a demo derby, have a race track in my backyard, rent a shop to build hot rods, listen to early country and rock and roll(rockabilly).and spend all my time around cars.so do i pass yer test mpls.i have friends that i'm not sure why they want cars, cause they can't work on um,but thats cool.you can still like um.i don't wanna fix um up,just wanna drive.but buildin um helps ya enjoy when ya get to drive um,right?

Holy shit! I miss a week or so on the HAMB and I miss all this drama! WOW!
The only reason I brought up this thread (sorry, el caballo!) is cause I really know Mr pitts.
For all you know it all. pseudo psyciatric psychics who can tell a guy's personality from a few words on a forum, you got it wrong.
Ken is a stand up guy. Been into this stuff since a lot of you JO's were still in grammar school. Not as long as us "greybeards", though, Kenny's still gettin schooled by the guys in the shop.
Actually, the chop was done in my shop, under my direction. Yeah, we did do some things the hard way, but in my eyes, the look is all important. Too many young guys take the easy way out doing things, and they look awkward, if not like total shit! We worked harder to get the look we wanted out of this car, but it was part of the whole plan. Like the rear window...lots of trouble to retain it, even though we had a couple "donor" roof sections we could have cut up and used. My 'puter is down at home, so I haven't been able to post a thread documenting how we did it. Sorry!
Anyway, just my thoughts on pitts.......
Kenny is a HARD worker. Anything I have taught him so far he has picked up in a short amount of time. Welding, metal fabrication, even lead work. We call him Bill Hines Jr., at the shop cause he loves the lead so much! I gave him a one or 2 hour how-to on it, doing one headlight frenching, and he picked it up immediatel, and tacked the other headlight. He may attempt to do the entire chop in lead, when I get done hammer welding in some of the rear window sections. Anyway, he's not afraid to tackle any project he takes on, learns fast, and his work is getting better and better....check out the finish work on the welded in bodyline seams on those Plymouth fenders. Almost perfect with NO filler! He's becoming a real craftsman. I have a lot of respect for him.
That's all I have to say! Whew
(See, Ken, I didn't even mention the 163 hours you have in "trying" to make a rear fender for the Trump!)

I've known a bunch of talented people that were still complete assholes. The big secret is to become an "equal opportunity asshole". From then on it jus don't matter. Welcome to the HAMB. I think you'll like it.
