I have some 68 chevy stuff that I'm giving to another member, well the post office was PACKED to the gills when i went there last week so i wasnt able to get a true cost of shipping. So i figgered i'd just go to thier web site & find out how much it would cost to mail it, since i dont care for UPS much anymore. well after entering all my info on the package i hit the "enter" button to find out what the cost was. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I about fell outta my chair when i saw the amount,$66 for a 40x34x1 inch box that weighed 8lbs. So i re-entered the numbers & it came back the same amount. I thought BULLSHIT there aint no way it should cost that amount. SOOOOOOOOO 2day I was able to get into the post office & had the lady check the price for me. Well can ya imagine the surprize i got when she told me about $15 total for the box. She ask me what did the web site say & i told her $66, so she checked again & it came up about $15 again.
Hell we all know that our goverment aint all that smart, remember those $300 ashtray & $500 hammers, but damn how can thier computor make a $45 mistake when i enter the correct numbers. OOOOOOO well all i know is I wont trust thier on line crap anymore. Damn & i though i wasnt cheap http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif ....joe

I've never had any problems either and I sent out 500 calendars at the begining of the year http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I recommend the website to all my out of the country friends to determine their shipping cost for stuff. Are you sure you were in the right catagory? US vs overseas? Ground vs overnite? Just a thought.

The Post Office calculator is usually wrong when I try to get a quote for a custom-sized box. I've never had it THAT far off, but the quote is usually higher than the real total.

I gave up on custom sized boxes - just check package, large package, or whatever. Unless you have something really odd sized or large, the sizing isn't going to matter - only the weight.

I do all of my shipping via USPS (I kinda have to being overseas military) & have the zone charts printed out for handy reference.

I also find most people estimate their shit weighs a lot more than it really does!!
