While we were trying to get the 8ba in the F-1 started Sunday, my geezer friend pointed out that the generator on it was from a tractor...
That's all he offered, I asked what difference will that make and he just shrugged his shoulders.
I'm used to his incomplete thoughts, but what are the differences in a passenger car or truck generators and a tractor generators, and will it make any difference using it as is?

my old ford 9n tractor generator I don't think used a voltage regulator, I had to turn a screw on the back someplace that adjusted the output unless it was off something else to?

Yeah, the tractor ones I know of had a screw on the back plate that adjusted to High Or Low. I think there was a regulator of some sort also, smaller than a regular car one.
Physically, they lack the protruding ring around the front plate, lack the little hole that registers on a pin on the bracket, and have mounting tabs for a swivel bolt type mounting like most inline engines. I don't have any info on the regulating system. Is yours hooked to a regulator? How many wires come out of the thing?

I'll check the wires Thursday when I get back to it.

I just checked a gennie I have here from an 8N late series tractor and it has the same 3 wires and 2 brush system as my 48 F1. Difference - no ventilation slots cut in the front of the case and a different front cap. Haven't looked close enough to see if the armature shaft is the same - appears the pulley is mounted closer to the case.
This 8N case even has the locating hole for the mounting pin and in all other ways looks to be the same.
