Then we fitted some parts together. We Olsen Decided the crossmember he made wasn't narrow enough, so he cu more out of it. It now has 5" out of the crossmember with 1" short A arms for a total of 7" narrower than a stock MII.

damn, after all that work, why not do an engine swap too? Like a FatHack(tm) V6?

Or are you vintage import racing this one too?

I picked up the free Olds 350 to try that with. But I don't want to sit in the back seat. See how short the nose is? The past owner that did most of the previous work had a Buick V6 in it till he blew it up. I am putting in another one of these till I redo this one. The other engine is from that tree crushed car I picked up a while back. The reason for cutting off the frame is the past owner replaced the hump section on the right side with a straight piece. It was also out of square and had a lot of things we need to remove anyway. So it is easier to start fresh than try to fix what was there.

I agree with ya on startin' fresh, long as you got the patience. Lookin' at those interior pics, it's hard to believe we cruised in that, isn't it kinda scary to see your ride that deep Under The Knife? That shortened MII crossmember should give it quite a change, though. Nice job, so far!

Yeah, Eric...that car cries out for a 2.8 Chevy V6...the motor is all metric, so you won't even need new tools to work on it or anything!

Great to see some progress...I was wondering what was up?

Is that crossmember all 1/8" metal?
Was wondering about the spring cups and shock mounts.
Looks good.

Originally the car was mostly SAE with a few Witworth snuck in. Then the later model engine added Metric to the mix. I use the cresent a lot.

I think it's all 1/8 inch wall and plate. The shock tops was a fluke that worked out better than planned. He usually makes them flat, but with the shorter A arms the other measurements became a little smaller. The shock needed more room so he raised the shock mount. The circle he used to raise it is also going into it and fits inside the spring holding it in place.

by shortening your crossmember (and the distance between the two halves of the suspension system more precisely), isn't your ackerman going to be up the shit? i think it might steer funny, particularly at really low speeds.

I ain't got a clue. He has shortened and lengthened these for other cars, but this is the narrowest. If it helps, he shortens the rack to match.

you can modify the steering arms to fix the ackerman stuff.

i think thats the only way to really get it right
