I already have too many projects, but I am a sucker for another! I have wanted to build a car hauler out of an old truck for a while, and this COE was available in my home town. I got suckered outta $250 for this hunk of rust http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The seller even delivered it for me, he must have wanted to unload it before I wised up and backed out of the deal. Here is a pic of the unloading process in my driveway today.

The truck was complete, excpet for the engine, the seller had taken it apart to "restore" it, good thing he found a sucker to take it off his hands, who would want to buy a bunch of parts all disassembled???? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Pic 2 of my new project. The frame and everything on this is huge! It is a 49 F-6. The sheet metal is light surface rust, a few dents, and one small rust through on the lower back of the cab. The doors are perfect with a little clean-up. Overall, very nice shape.

BTW, that orange 27 coupe in the backgrouond is my last new project and what i will actually be working on this year. The COE will wait while I gather parts for it. I am thinking of mounting it on a late model dually crew cab chassis? Or maybe a motorhome? Do they have independent front suspension?

Man, some guys will buy anything! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
Looks like a fun project! Motorhomes make a good chassis for COEs. Most of the newer ones have independent suspension in front, and you can buy burn jobs cheap.

Glad someone else has one of those. I had one and sold it a couple of years ago, a '48. I'll just pretend to be building it as I watch you struggle along. They make super haulers and you're on the right track using a late model frame and drive train. Makes maintainence soooo much easier.

Oh!! BTW If you mount the engine behind the cab, below the bed or ramp it lets you remove the dog house from the cab and gives you a TON more room, like a full bench seat.

well you should get half your money back by scrapping the frame an shit.

Tomslik is the hambs COE guy, though i don't see him around any more, don't know if he's into anything that new though.

the most incredible COE i have seen was a later 40's early 50's chevy SUBURBAN COE mounted on a lifted 4x4 chassis, that thing was HUGE!

That is cool as hell - I love how tall it is as almost as high as your house! Yeah is can see "Neighbor of the Month" The one ton Chevys run a A arm independent front suspension and are pretty prevelant, if its an old work truck check the frame to make sure its not bent from over load.

Earl Shieb - "4 must make me a moron" I almost fell over laughing when i read that!

It sure was fun watching the old owner(s) unload the thing. They have a lot of experience dealing with moving heavy equipment... it took them almost an hour to unload it, but nobody got hurt and it was fun to watch them inch it down (in four inch increments) with safety chains, safety blocks, come alongs, block and tackles... you name it, they had it.

When it was all done, I told Terry and these guys "We could have done it in a fraction of the time... but we probably would have hurt something (or someone"

Anyway, while Terry is building Dustin's old "T"... I'm most certain he'll come up with the right chassis for the thing.

Then when it's done... Terry can bring home even MORE projects! I love it!

Sam.
