Something i always get confused about is how tires are sized.
Give me a lesson on how to know what a tire looks like just by hearing the numbers/letters. Is that possible?
Ex. 265/75R15
How big would that be?
What do each of the numbers/letters represent?
Im confusing myself, but i hope you understand what im trying to say.
Thanks,
Nick
Ex. 265/75R15
cant recall the measurements used, mm? some metric crap
275 width 75= side wall is 75% of width 15= 15 inch rim

About 10 1/2 wide sidewall to sidewall, and probably just shy of 31 inches tall. Tread width will vary, depending on the manufacturer, but will probably be between seven and eight inches. Probably designed for a seven inch rim. All the dimensions will vary a little from manufacturer to manufacturer, but these are the dimensions that the tire size shows.
To answer your question the numbers are (in order)
265 section width (sidewall to sidewall) in millimeters. About 25 millimeters to the inch.
75 is the aspect ratio. the tire section is 75 percent as tall (rim to tread) as it is wide (sidewall to sidewall).
R is for radial construction. B is for bias-belted, D for bias ply.
15 nomimal rim diameter.

P265-75R15
P means high pressure, the early radials ran lower pressures.
R means Radial construction.
265 is the width in mm,which works out to:
10.4" wide mounted on a 7 1/2" rim.
Will work on rims 7"-9".
30.6" tall.
8.4" tread width.
You can search for tires by size here:

Once you find a match, click on "specs" for detailed dimensions.

THanks alot guys. Animal, how did you figure all of that out? Im still kind of confused. You got to remember that it takes me 1hr and 1/2 to watch 60 minutes. Im a little slow when it comes to words and paper, or in this case words and monitor.
