Hello.
Name's Al... Been involved in the automotive industry since the mid 70's... Still at everyday.Back in those days I spent countless hours helping my next door neighbor building his 34 Ford PU and his 55 Fairlane....By complete necessity much of this was hand fabrication.Took the Y Block out of the 55 and shoehorned in wrecking yard 351C out of a Cougar and a T10 from a 64 Fairlane....Bill built his own traction bars for it.... Built exhaust pipes out of old Mercury tapered Drive shafts that we modified and aimed to dump at the rear axle.... Even with a stock Cleveland the exhaust note was thunderous LOL......In the 34 the Flathead finially died and was replaced by a 250 HP 327 and a glide out of a 64 Impala....... Good memories and a great way to learn about cars.
I'm an old school iron fan.My screen name 097 refers to that late great " 097 " Duntov Solid Lifter SBC cam.... That was my first flat tappet cam.... Since 1974 there has only been one 3 year period in which I didnt have at least one car with a mech flat tappet cam in one of my engines.... And yes currently I am still out there adjusting valves !.....I have had several Isky's , A couple Crane's , One of John Delong's grinds , A Lunati , A Comp , A Couple of GM's own , OE Mopars solids , an Ultradyne ....There is nothing quite like the sewing machine clatter of a good flat tappet !
There is alot of knowelege here and I hope I can contribute in some way .
