So this friend of mine mention's to me that there is a long running cruise night in town here, starts the 1st tuesday of daylight savings, so I think to myself, weathers nice this evening, I'll go look see whats there......

I left home at 6.10pm, I have been, looked, come home & logged on, and its JUST 7.10.

Talk about feeling welcome....NOT!

Dave,.....for what it's worth, here in Florida where I live (small town western Gulf coast area) there are 5 cruise nights a week. They all are Gold Chainer's and power-parking freaks. When I show up in my old A or Willys, only the "Cicel-B-Citizen's" come to look and talk.
My wife Jennifer and I just don't go because it's like a Old-Farts rocking chair reunion verynight at every spot.
Hell, I'm 48 and I can't stand it !
...and there are just no guys and gals around our area that are into what we are, if it were not for the HAMB board, I'd go nuts.

I guess its just that back home in the UK, there just ain't enough of 'US' to act like that, sure there's the occassional 'old fart in a chair' but even they talk.

Having been here for a year & a half now, I find it strange that the shows & cruises seem populated with these people....back home, they are mostly 'younger generation' people. But then I guess a lot of these guys grew up with it here in the 40's/50's etc, so for a lot of them, its re-living the old days.....

Oh well, now I know...I won't be going back there again.

I enjoy meeting John Q Public that often makes the comment..now this is what a hot rod is supposed to look like. If you let the snobs run you off you miss meeting the people that DO enjoy your ride.

It's also possible that the snobs are just shy and waiting to feel you out. If you don't act like an ass they may not treat you like one. I just think a lot of people assume they know what the other people are thinking when they have no clue until they have had a conversation with them. 32flathead dude. You are wrong on one part, that these guys "grew up with it in the 50s and 60s". It has been my experience that the guys that REALLY lived hot rods in their heyday ARE the ones who come over and talk!!!!! Lots of these OLD geezers arent even that old! If they are a grey haired 58 that means they were born in 46 and didnt start driving until the 60s amd did not graduate til 64! Most of them missed real hotrods!!! They were weaned on showroom screamers that all but killed the hot rod as we know it. Futhermore, what I find that is a lot of the "goldchainers" ARE and WERE dorks then AND now!!!! See that guy over there? We (the Vultures) are having the 1st Annual Asphalt Invitational the day before, on July 10th- at Holiday Bowl in Hayward.
