I need to change this to fixing the top steel where the vinyl top was -
anyone have some tips?

I like to fill the hole with padded vinyl make a slidin sun roof like the vdubs had. Then I would want a smooth finish on the perimeter where the vinyl used to cover. The metal is pretty rust pitted and there is a groove where the old top nailed down and the finshing piece went.

Not sure how to fix this yet?

OK - shit - duh - that explains the cowl - http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif - I am also trying to work here too.

well - what I want to know is - has anyone put a flat top on an A - I swear I thought the one I saw go by was a A. I only caught it from the back though and it was windy and the sun was in my eyes and .....

I was thinking go flat right above the doors and lower the shade - might be cool -

is this what you saw?

model A production was late 1927 to 1931 ..

just a matter of opinion.. but theres something to be said about fords designs through the mid 30s... they really dont need anything.

these bodies are so simple, any radical mods that arent well plotted out and justifiable to the original design can really mess up the overall attitude of the car. its design basics... "if it aint broke, dont fix it".

What I thought I saw really looked like an A coupe from the back. It was probably a T.

I was just contemplating this since the rounded part of my 31 A roof that was covered with the fabric is pretty rough. I thought the flat look may be an alternative way to finish the top after a chop.

It probably wouldn't look that good. It would look bad from behind for sure.

I am just not sure how to fix that with metal. I want to have an insert type top or a sliding top so I will want the sides finished.

not yet - my camera is on hiatis till this weekend - it is slazz's old car - there is a thread in the classifieds "31 tudor"

Here is what I think needs to happen -
wire brush to bare metal - 4" grinder with wire brush wheel
- then primer or por 15 it?
then where the groove is where the top perimeter was - weld sheet metal so it is flush, covering the groove - then I'll have to form the sheet to the shape of the top - sort of making a skin?

I was thinking an angle would be needed around the perimeter of the opening
and the skin could be finished to that.

it will just be tough forming the sheet metal on the back corners

does that sound like the right direction to go?

maybe I should just put the vinyl top on -
