hey all,
Im putting a duvall type windscreen on my 31 RPU, and want to get a cowl top piece like this one....they wrap right over to the dash and meet up neatly with the curve up the side of the fuel tank...what the hell were they off? Ive seen two or three pictures of rods with them, are they a 'firetruck' cowl as mentioned in this artcle? I think Ive found one...want to know if they are rare or valuable, to better judge my offer on it.

G,day, Lookie what i got here in Holland. It,s a 30/31 truck
cowl that still has the 1 inch wide rusty edge where some
body builder fitted his wooden framework. This cowl has no
provision for door hinges or windscreen. I suppose it
could also be from a woodie so that makes it rare i guess.

The last time I saw a cowl top like that it was on a fire truck. Pretty rare I would think.

I've got one. My bro's got one. I've seen others. They're not that rare.
And yes they probably came off of fire trucks, utility trucks, depot hacks, and anything else that just needed a chassis and a place to put a gas tank.
I'm gonna do the same thing with mine, use it on a roadster with a duval type windsheild.

That is a really cool piece. Don't know that I've ever noticed one before.
Couldn't you make that fairly easily using a regular cowl?

The only special piece is the top band. Could probably make one pretty easy. All else is just roadster.

thanks every one, I thought about making one, but its got some pretty complex curves goin on. The guy with it has it on a really fukked 30 cowl, and wont seperate it...was wondering if its worth buying the whole thing.Ill work on him.

Depends on how much you want it and how much he wants for it.

This is a cowl from a cowl and chassis sale. Aftermarket body builders bought these from Ford in those days and all the way through the years til now to build schoolbuses, mailtrucks, ice cream trucks, armored cars, laundry trucks, delivery trucks, and any other sort of commercial vehicle you can imagine based on a truck chassis.
The cowl and chassis did include ALL the front sheet metal and so on but no seats or other body aft of the cowl section.
