Just wanted to get this post started...how about a huge lot of art,etc....we will spend the day digging stuff out,but I think you folks know what to expect from us....
Please add your item(s) in your posts and lets' see what we come up with here?
Thanks in advance.....

Tickets 10. each....
Money to Ryan......
We will draw the winner at random at the end of the time set...
How about May 1.o4

Ryan

I can't take money in honor of someone that I didn't know all that well to begin with man. If you want to do a raffle lets do it for his family - not me.

Johnny Ace
04-05-2004, 03:52 PM
Thanks for pointing that out Ryan...I'm okay with auctions, but the raffle is new to me....
You guys decide where it will go, maybe those who knew Jerry Branson?
CherryBlossom had offered to collect and arrange contributions....whatever you all want to do....

if this was his or his families wish I think we should do as Assdragger said;

[ QUOTE ]
Contributions can be made in his name to:
Cheif CrazyHorse Monument
Custer,South Dakota

I think the monument thing is a well deserved and cool idea.
Who knows, if we got enough money together, maybe they would put a plaque somewhere in Jerry`s name as a large contributer!

[/ QUOTE ]

and bftwcs said,

[ QUOTE ]
Whoever Tommy got his information from said that Jerry's family was in pretty good shape as far as Money goes, but said that Jerry was Diabetic and suggested that donations could also be made to the American Diabetes Association in Jerrys name.

[/ QUOTE ]

maybe a split between the two?

that said I would like to add a couple things,

a book on Chevy sixes up to 1950 and a red metal flake wheel with horn button and adapter, pix forth coming..

..........

I opened the book and an original water slide decal fell out, I forgot I had it! it is added to my contribution..

here's the pix;

a cool Superior flaked wheel in excelent shape for the 60's Style crowd

This is a great idea you guys, I think his family will be INCREDIBLY touched by the thoughtfulness of the HAMB. I know some of the art guys said they were going to donate their masterpieces to the raffle, hopefully they're still willing.

You guys can either send me the item you're putting up for raffle, and I can in turn send it all in one big box to the winner, or it can be done individually. Let me know.

Also, Ryan, if you could post this at the top, that would be great http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well it's not an original piece of art, I'm not blessed that way, but I am pretty good at purveying some pretty neat stuff from time to time.

This came from my old neighbor who used to drag race the So. Cal circuit in the 60's (though I think he picked this in the early 80's). When he moved I got all his old trophies, posters, and some other goodies.

I was going to ebay this, but if this isn't an honorable cause, I don't know what would be.

My contribution is a NOS, still in the shrink wrap, Orange County International Raceway, Lady's Baby-doll tee (size medium, my wifes a perfect size 3 and it fits her well).

Heck, my lovely wife even offered to model hers for the photo ....

http://photo.starblvd.net/geemann51/2-3-5

I'm happy to send it to a central collection point or to the lucky winner, no difference to me, just let me know...

Good luck and my best to the family and those that knew the guy...

These mags were ahead of their time back in the very early '80's. I hope this helps out the family. I will send these out to Cherryblossom right away.

In case my other Post gets lost, this is what Tommy sent me after going to the Visitation....

------------------------------------------------------------

The family asked that any donations go to the Crazy Horse monument, in care of the mortuary. Jerry had started his life long dream of working with Native American Indians. He went to Cherry Creek, S.D. last year and was supposed to go again this month to take clothes, food and toys. The obit said he was a big star with the children there, in a big way.

The HAMB flowers were beautiful and were placed right in front of the casket. All of the family said thanks to all. I gave his daughter Deirdre a Henry-J (hot wheel) and told her to send it with him. When I left I noticed she had placed it on the lid of the coffin. Tell all of the HAMB’rs the family were very appreciative of every thing being done, and surprised to see the names of people from all over the globe.

That's too cool. The HAMB is a powerful place.

I'm in for the Paypal payment. Is there any way we can edit this post so that all the info ( like paypal account, shipping address for raffle funds, or shipping address for raffle prizes if any one else wants to get in) are in the first post so lazy people don't have too look thru all post to see where to send it.

Paul

thanks Sean, I was thinking about it most of the day.

I think it's really cool he was working with the kids and that his family wants the donations for the Crazy Horse Monument.

Alright, I'll sweeten the pot.
I have some very odd and sorta corny things to throw in...
Here goes:

Weird-ohs "freddy Flameout" Testor model (1993) sealed
Wacky Wobbler "sike-o-shriner" bobblehead figure. sealed
Mez-itz "Cinema of Fear" 3 pack horror figures. sealed
Cool "toothpick bird" toothpick holder. never opened
Stray Cats 45 album. "sexy & 17 / Lookin' better every Beer" (ratfink logo on record)
November 1957 Rod Builder & customizer mag (devil Deuce)
Signed and framed 8X10 print that I took on the way to the round-up last month "Carls Corner"

I know that some of these items might seem a little odd, but I have a room full of off the wall shit...
Hope this helps...

Back to the $10 raffle deal... 10 chances or one issue.

If someone is going to physically collect everyones donations in $10 increments and then phsyically write down the name on peices of paper or small tickets... then I think that each $10 donation should get you one chance....
the odds are the same either way, but the workload is 10 times less for the poor sap that has to organize the raffle tickets...
Exapmle:
let's say we get two people donating $10.00 each...
the ods of winning are still the same...

10 out of 20 chances to win if you get 10 chances.

or

1 out of 2 chances to win if you get 1 chance for $10.

got it? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
makes sense to me...
just my thoughts.

I hear what you're saying Hankcash, but it sounds like it has been decided.

How about one chance per envelope?

if all you can send is a buck put it in an envelope,

if you want to donate a hundred bucks and the donation is worth more than you winning, put it in one envelope.

if you want to improve your odds stuff a hundred separate envelopes with a buck in each.

anyway, what's a little effort? we are talking about something bigger than that here.

Ok. Since I am the one collecting the money and doing the leg work here, I agree with Hankcash. 1 chance for $10.00. By spreading out each donation, it just means alot more work for me, even though your chances will be exactly the same. I hope this doesn't offend any of you, but this is what was originally stated in the first few posts, and I think we should stick to it. This is a great thing that you are doing for my brother.

Tommy...who are you? I'm sure I saw or met you at the visitation.

A couple of you asked me details about the wreck, I posted them on the other thread "Jerry Branson - Joplin"

Thanks to all of you, from all of us.

Barb, that would be Tommy McCray from Millersburg, MO. He has a yellow Henry J that he has owned and driven/raced since the early 60's.

Here is a picture of Tommy and Jerry at the HAMB Drags last year, in case you missed it on the other Post.

Your first instinct is generally the right one http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

We are getting our art contributions sorted out between the auction that RaceFab won and this raffle....
Big Thanks to CB for doing the actual organizational work on this raffle...an idea is one thing, carrying it out is a whole 'nuther story....Truth be told, if it were left up to us,with the work we have to do, this raffle would be either terribly disorganized or extremely late...
So, thanks again to all for making it happen!

Ladies and gentlemen of the HAMB,
I do have a late entry to the raffle. I do not have any pics of it unfortunately, but when cherryblossom gets it she'll post pics. With a car I bought I got a vintage Snap-on jacket. Looks like it's from the 50's. Even has the holders on the sleeve for your tire gauge and pen. I will not be able to get it mailed until Monday so we must be patient.
Although I never knew or met Jerry Branson it seems that he was respected and loved by everyone he met. So for a great guy and a great cause I donate this jacket and hopefully jumpstart some more donations. Thank you and good luck to all.

....not wishing to stir up any politics, but Mt. Rushmore is one of the biggest disgraces in American History. The Black Hills are an extremely sacred place to the Lakota people (Sioux) Carving giant faces of dead Presidents was the ultimate insult. Besides, that land STILL belongs to the Lakota people and THAT treaty has been upheld in the Federal Court system. The government is still trying to "buy" the land......
There are two schools of thought on the Crazy Horse monument. One, to honor the people and the land, LEAVE IT ALONE! The dream of the monument is to honor the people and to create an educational center. "Joplin" has my utmost respect for his desire to honor the People. Thanks guy........

This is neither the proper place or cause to discuss "politics." It is about honoring a REALLY good person's memory. I didn't know Jerry personally, but still respect him from all that I have heard. I am sorry if I have offended anyone and will be more thoughtful in the future.......
