its that simple. connect 1-wire alt to bat. check other wires, if they are hot, tape off so they dont ground. For better results add an ammeter in the circuit between alt and bat

Dumbass!!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got a couple generators laying around here if you need one to fix/replace yours with!

Wiring the alternator up if you decide to go that way is so simple even you could do it!!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Use a common, cheap-o GM internally regulated alternator...the big, heavy wire goes to your battery (either directly to the positive post, or to the big post on your starter with the battery cable).

The small red wire goes to keyed 12v power, and the small white wire (buy a replacement plug) goes to your "charge" light if you got or want one.

Throw your old regulator and it's wiring away if you switch to the alternator.

I like generators. I've had several alternators need replaced, but the generators seem to just keep on going! Maybe I've just been lucky, though.

At least you didnt rebuild 3 gens into one usable one, only to drop it and break the mount clean off on the pulley end as you were carrying it to your 56 buick... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif That'll piss a guy off quick!

you could weld it.
for an alternator use a '73 and up gm internal regulated and get a plug repair end (pigtail), both found at local chain stores. on the back of the alt you'll see the #'s 1 and 2 (on the case by the regulator. #1 goes to the stock wire that goes to your warning light, #2 you run to the back of the alt (ring terminal) and the ring terminal is direct battery (you can connect this to the battery feed from the old regulator use 10g wire). so you only need 3 wires from the old set-up (1 battery feed, 1 warning light and the ground) and you can leave the old reg in its place for effect. you will also need the stupid chrome lower bracket, the one they say is for headers (looks like 2 "L" brackets welded on top of each other).

most likely pot metal of some sort, you would need a tig or heliarc. i would also stay way from single wire alts, they're more $$$ and some don't charge at idle.

From your pictures, it looks like my generator case will work for ya.

Not sure if mine have an open back or not, I'll check it out.

Otherwise, they look alot like yours...except with the bolt ear still attatched! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That shoulds like the kinda of shit that happens to me. I would have shot the neighbors dog. I would go with the alt. up grade. That way when you pull that inline 6 out and put in the sbc you could most likely re-use the alt. BS
