i spent weeks blocking my 49 ford, sanding till my fingers bleed. about a week and a half painting, color sanding, buffing, cleaning. the pin stipper spent 12hrs pinstripping aall my flames and scroll pieces i assembled the hood and deck. went for a short test drive sat. came back adjusted the carb went for another short test and the unthinkable happend..... the fucking hood flew open and bent all to shit. lucky it didnt damage any other part of the car. i need some southern cal hambers help..... my buddy sergio had a hood that me and killer welded up last night and i body worked today and hopefully will have ready for viva. the problem is that the hood was supposed to go on his 50 ford soon so if anybody has a parts car or a spare 50 hood they want to sell please contact me.
thank you
todd

shouldn't you be sanding?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!
My heart fell to my toes when the hood flew open. I think Sergio cried...
Guys, this car is bad ass. Todd has soo damn much time into this car getting it ready. We'll get the other hood painted, striped and on the car for Viva for sure...
But we need the hook up on a good hood to replaced the one Sergio GAVE Todd so he could get the car to Viva...
Help a brother out. Not looking for a freebie, just need a good hood.

That sucks BIG time! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif That is one of the main reasons I will never paint another one of my cars, it's a damn curse, as soon as you paint something all hell breaks loose. Good luck finding a new hood or just run it without one for a while.

Germ.
Sergio already started bodyworking his hood before he gave it to Todd so I think we'd like to get him a replacement as soon as we can. Maybe within a couple weeks?
Thanks man.

I'm not sure whats up with shoebox fords and the hood comming up, it happened to me too just after Viva last year and I've talked to other people that had the same thing happen. Totally wrecked the hinges, hood and tops of the fenders. I was kind of luckey that when it happened i wasen't in traffic or some other dangerous situation. Good luck on your replacement hood.

Wow, that paint job is beautiful. Sorry to hear about the accident. Good luck getting a new hood squared away.
HAMBr "Jeff" had his '53 hood blow open on the way to one of the Baltimore Greaseballs. We took it off at the show and I lugged it home in my truck.

re-reading this it looks as if i'm sayin' the WORK sucks... naw... cool paint,,,, what happened sucks.

Man, seeing that bent hood brakes my heart because I know how much time and work you must have had wrapped up in it.
Looks like you're going to make it with time to spare, though.
An FYI for Shoebox Ford owners: ALWAYS make sure that you pull the hood latch (on the front support) back to the fully closed position by hand before you shut the hood. The hoods on these cars are notorious for coming unlatched at speed.

Holy macrel... that paint is awesome.
I know how you felt when that baby blew up... when I was 18 I had that happen on my '55.
It had been at the painters for 10 months... I had worked a job, bought and sold cars to pay for my first paint job... then the painter didn't tie the hood down good enough... it took out the hood, the fenders and the top of the car...
Anyway, you'll get it fixed and it'll probably be better than before...
I dig the spade that is "hidden" in the flames... way cool.
Sam.
holmes is going to call me with a price. he thinks he has one.....
has to search the yard.
