Hot Rod Dan

Hi, I've been lurking for a while and decided it's time for an intro. My name is Dan and I live in North Texas near Fort Worth.
My current project is a 32 Ford Tudor that I’m building for use as a family hot rod. I have 2 small kids so an all weather car with a back seat is kinda important, my dream roadster will have to wait. I want to make the car look traditional and that’s where the influence of the HAMB will help. There is a great group of talent here and I hope I can contribute a tech article or two and help in any way I can.
I plan on building the tudor as an un-chopped full fendered rod with steel wheels, ’46 hubcaps and a nice rake. For the interior I’m thinking about using some simple bucket seats, van middle seat for the rear and a ’40 Ford column & steering wheel. I haven’t decided on the finish-out yet, but I’m interested in a late 1950’s or early 1960’s look. I figure the old girl will let me know what colors it wants to be as I work on it more.
So far I’ve boxed an original frame and added a repo model A front crossmember & ’57 Ford rear end with an equal lock. For the trans I have available a TH350, TH400 and a 700R4 and am leaning toward the 700R4 as I plan to run a lot of highway miles with this rod (eventually I'd like to drive it to all 48 contiguous states).
The engine choice is a little more difficult. I’d like to run a full hood with 25 louver sides. The engines I have available are a SBC 400 and a Chrysler 392. If I run the SBC 400 I’ll use double hump heads (with steam holes drilled), an early intake with oil filler tube, finned rocker covers and a Hellings air cleaner. The Chrysler would be bitchin’ but it’s width pretty much rules out stock hood sides (no hood sides and a well detailed chizler would look cool though :) ).
If you have any pictures you’d like to pass along for ideas, I’m interested. I may just mock-up the car with one engine and then the other and see how the spirit moves me. If the Chrysler doesn’t get used on this car I’ll save it for a future roadster project.
I’m still working on the details. I’ll ad a photo when I get a current one (may need some help posting it). It’s not very far along at this point, but I hope to have it on the road by next spring. -- Dan
