My rear (in the car) has been making noise for some time. I'm finally doing something about it and I find that everything is worn- not real bad, but needs to be redone. Here's my dilemma. I cannot find a gear set for this rear. Any HELP or ADVICE would be greatly appreciated. I don't know much in this area, but I'm learning now!

It is a GM 8.2 Differential from a 64-72 Chevy passenger car.
Ring gear diameter: 8.2"
Yoke: 1.438"
25 spline
Ratio: 2.73:1

I would like to keep it at 2.73 but haven't found anyone who stocks a ring & pinion for this rear.
The closest I've found are 3.08's from Richmond Gears.
From what I've been told, I cannot go to a 3.08 or higher because I have a 2-series carrier and would need a 3-series.

It really sucks having the car in pieces and not finding the parts to make it work.
Thanks, Bil

What about going through a GM dealership and seeing if they still stock that ring and pinion?

dehudso- Monday I start making calls to see if the 2.73 is not listed because it's not popular. Everybody wants drag race gears(except me). The Chevy dealer will be on that list.

Rocky- my rear (from the car) was making noise two years before I dropped off the old one to you. I'm only doing something about it now. It didn't stop me from doing the Americruises or Bonneville or anything else. I would HATE to have it closed back up and make another season on it. My deadline is to have it ready for ScarryLarry's show in May.

Get a ring gear spacer, then you should be able to run a 3.08 on that carrier.
