I would think the Buick would have a good 150 lbs over a Jimmy...

The Jimmy was a pretty heavy engine - after all, it's a truck motor!

the 216/235 chevy's (which were a tad lighter - different bore spacing) weighed in at 630 lbs; the Olds 8 (granted, it's a flattie and not a valve-in-head) is 614 lbs by comparison.

The ford flatties were light - figure 500 lbs after swapping heads, intakes, etc.

Just becuase a motor has more holes don't necessarily mean it's heavier.

Yeah... but I am sitting here looking at a Buick straight eight sitting right next to a jimmy 6... and thinking, huh? I mean, this buick block looks HUGE.

Depends on which buick 8; I forget the small one's displacement but the big one is a 320.

Scotch did a whole dissertation on the buick str8's a while back - betcha the answer is in there somehweres.

You could be right - but if I agreed with you, would that make me Ryan's yes-man?

I don't know... Jason said this one is out of a '51... It looks like a tank block... It looks fucking HUGE. It makes the jimmy and the sbc it's sitting next to look like pigmy motors.

That said, I'm no expert on either motor... Maybe it's space mass doesn't always equate to weight!

Before I decided to run a Jimmy I looked online and found that the Buick is almost 200 pounds heavier than the Jimmy. The Buick weight was listed at 865 pounds and the bore is small. The small bore would limit valve sizes to 1.73" intake and 1.30" exhaust. Hell, with 2.02"/1.67 valves the Jimmy will still be undervalved. Plus, the ports on the Buick are really small.
