Looking at the rules, ANY axle is legal as long as it's stock width???
I plan on mocking up my build for my winter project and have a '55 Chevy rear with 3.55 gears. Good ratio for a flathead???
If not I may find another Toyota axle like I'm using in my Pickup.
Thanks!!

Yep, any axle as long as it stock width. The chev will work fine. One thing to keep in mind is a rearend that you can find different gear selections for. You might want to change that 3.55.

The Speed Merchants are running a '55 Chevy rear. It works fine for us. The rearend ratio is part of a calcularion that includes tire size and engine rpm. I'll post the formula later. I would start the project with the 3.55 gears. You'll probably want to buy lower gears later.

Maybe some usefull formulas
MPH=RPMx(Tire diameter)/((Gear Ratio)*336)
RPM=(336/Tire Diameter) x MPH x Gear ratio
This can be used to find the optimum gear ratio for a desired RPM range
Gear Ratio = RPM * Tire Diameter / (MPH * 336)

Thanks guys!
The Toyota axle I 'may' use has 4.10's in it and I have a 3rd member with 3.73's for it to.
But the '55 rear would be more 'correct' I guess.
Not sure on a trans yet...........

I'd use the '55 and plan one buying new gears. Old parts break.
