My friends from England are going to this event...(After the Rockaround). They are looking for some pre-parties and good places to go to meet people to hang out with. They are into Rockabilly, Psychobilly and Hot Rods.
E-mail me if you can send me some info - also, is there a webpage for the event?

We land in LA on 30th then make our way up to Pismo to meet up with Shelly, then head on out to Bakersfield on friday early (the downside being we'll be in a hire car, but you can't have your cake & eat it too)
slcbillygirl who are your friends from England, i know some that will be at LV Rockaround.
This only a short trip for us just for the reunion, after we'll head up to Frisco so do any of you know any non-gold chain shops worth a visit, would hate to drive right past something good!

I fly in to LAX on Sept. 30... Booked a hotel in Bakersfield from Thursday night to Sunday morning...
I don't know if my buddy in L.A. can get 2 days off from work to leave on Thursday, otherwise I'll meet up with him at the races... That means that I have to go in a rental car then, otherwise in the RPU...
On Sunday morning we'll be going to El Mirage to check out the action down there...

Jerry - A HAMB meet would be good, because it sounds like you and I need to meet up. I am planning to bring a Ford car rear end over for Deyomatic and he said you were taking it back for him.
I've got to find Radshit also, because I have a 289 short block for him.
So how about 12 noon at the south end of the stands?

I'll be there. Hope to make the Rattlecan deal on Friday too. I'll be wearing a red ballcap with a big white "N" on the front (usually stands for "Nebraska" - but during the CHRR, it stands for "Nitro!"). Look for me with the Standard 1320 group around the "grove" area. Supposed to have a golf cart rented, so I hope to get everywhere.
I'll try to wear my HAMB drags shirt sometime during the meet - and I'll prowl the rat rod area at the end of the bleachers.
A friend and I are staying at the Vagabond in B'field. Stop by and introduce yourself.
Stan Weber (stan292)
Me & CK are planning to be there on Saturday.
I'll be wearing a white Australian T-shirt with 50 Ford convert, black 32 highboy three window and orange Willys' coupe on the front.
Got a New Zealand/Australian style hat as well.
And a ponytail.
CK will be ... well, he's just CK....
I'll probably drive the pickup down.
Hauling some parts for the Southland.
Far as I know right now, little brother and his black Henry J won't be there.

I just heard that "after what happened last year", they are only allowing finished, "show quality" vehicles in the car show parking area, no "projects" allowed. I am assuming that means shiney paint, kinda like the LARS.
That will be interesting...

I don't really have any more info, I got that tidbit from someone at the track office when I called for some ticket info. She said the plans/policies for Car Show/preferred parking will be finalized next week when the CHRR event people arrive on Monday/Tuesday.
I did hear some people with "shiney" cars got turned away last year when "unfinished" cars were being let in, and it wasn't event staff that was working the gate.
You might try calling the track office at 661-399-2210, I was planning to call back on Tuesday.
If anybody else hears anything about this, please share.
I hope they work something out.

Last year Friday was fine. As usual it was first come, first served for parking in the grove. No problems. Sat morning 1/2 the grove was roped and taped off with a few cars parked in there holding spots for all their friends/members. Those of us who were in line before they opened the gates found we were already too late to get into the grove and were turned around by non track people who said the grove was already full. Then they'd let in their buddies/members that got there behind us. Shag, I and others were turned away and had to park way out past the swap meet. Some of the other cars that were turned away were in primer but I guess they didn't have the right club plaque to be first come, first served either. When I walked all the way back to the grove there were still spots but they were taped off. By then, the track people were back at the entrance to the grove and the tape was comming down. A lot of people in some pretty nice cars weren't too happy about getting there way early, waiting in line for hours then getting turned away to make room for late arrivals who had spots saved for them. Never had that problem before at CHRR.

just got off the phone with the track, what it basically boils down to is this, your car needs to move under it's own power, either be finished or an in progress car, as for what the hell that means, you got me, she did say that it is now a car SHOW, and the cars should be of "show" quality, no beat up stockers, no parts cars on trailers, blah blah blah, take it how you like it................

PS- I'll be parked in my swap spot as usual, hiding my beer from all the damn freeloaders! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Guess I shouldn't rag on Roy. After all, when he welded up the frame for me and got Pet & Jakes to build those hairpins the way I wanted them. We were making the prototype for all those cars. Here's mine when I picked it up. He probably built 20 or 30 of them before I got the origional done tho. Money does help.

My car "work in progress" and a lot of other primered cars are on the brochure mailed to promote CHRR. I understand not letting non running cars in and beat up stockers. I'm right behind you D.
how much does it cost to get your car in?
mines a primered rpu,
it will suck to drive it 200+ miles,
and get outside seating.
but if its like 50 bucks to park,
I'd rather park outside in the primer group...
