I didn't see a new thread yet, so I'll start one for you.
The question was whether or not anyone had tried running two gears in an HA/GR.
I believe the Ram Rods run two gears now. I don't know about the other teams.
If I can ever get off my duff and build one, I'm going to try to figure out how to control more gears. We'll see.

The Speed Merchants start in second and shift to high.

Like Rand Man said. We are doing it and have been since day one. The Ramrods started out using 3 gears and gave us a lot of sh*t about leaving in second. Then middle of this year they got some lower rear gears and now they have
"seen the light" LOL There is also a car being built with a 4 speed in it. The builder seems to think we are going the wrong direction- maybe he's right. Time will tell. I think it will all work. You just have to start with a plan and build the car accordingly - matching components to work together the way you have planned.

The big secret is getting these 6in wide tires to hook up off the starting, you do the math.

If you would, ...can you help me do the math?
If I were running a 26"-28" tall tire, and wanted to be around 5K in the traps, what "size" of rear gear are you thinking I would need?

28" dia. tire @ 5000 rpm with a 3.78:1 rear gear = 110 mph.
