ive been a fan of hot rods my entire life. i can remember thumbing the pages of hot rod mags even before i could read.money issues forced me to build whatever was cheap growing up.i started building cars when i was 15 with a 78 camaro that i did heavy chassis/suspension mods to and its now gone through about 4 or 5 motors, also built by me.
I work for a real estate investor here in the chicago area and i also have a part time job restoring classic muscle at memory lane motors in lake bluff il.i own about 6 cars ,two camaros78 and 95,a nasty 77monza tubbed out with a chute.
A raise and getting to save a little money from my second job, i finnaly started shopping on ebay for a hot rod project.I decided on the model a sedan as a good starting point and after getting beat out and under bidding on some great deals over the last month i finally hit the jackpot, i was bidding on three or four cars at a time just trying to get somthing reasonable.( i would bid on more than one car because i knew from past auctions that at the end i would almost certanly be out bid)but bam then it bit me in the ass and i won three bids in a four day period.so what did i do?i rented the biggest box truck i could leagaly drive and took some time off of work to do a 2k lap around the midwest picking up all three cars and related parts to help finish them.
almost as soon as i got back to chicago i took a sawsall to the roof of the car i decided to build first.its a 28 sedan, now with a 5'' chop.im going to channel it 4'' as well just as soon as i figure out what to do with the sub rails.any help on that by the way?do i just cut out around the chassis or what? i removed the body mount brackets from the chassis do you guys re use them, maybe flip and hang them below the bottom chassis line?anyways, the car looks sick withthe 5'' chop and it just needs a lil help in the channeling dept to be right on. ive also decided ona suicide front end, does this work with double wishbones and a drop axle maybe welding the shackle brackets in between the top and bottom arms of the double wishbones? im shure all of you will help me out in the weeks to come.in a nut shell i want to do all three with a z in the rear but none in the front. im thinking 12-13'' would be good enough for the back if i can suicide the front without a z.im thinking ill have to put the drag link out front, but im pretty much lost with the steering .two will be flathead powered and one lucky rat will get the desoto hemi.
