i'm in the process of putting together my 327 for my 54 chevy,and i'm concerned about the intake..i wanna run an edelbrock 3x2 intake with some rochesters,but i dont know what all i need to run.if i just have an oil fill tube with vent cap and a road draft on the back,am i good to use the old script valve covers?i read all of the posts on "going from breathers to non" or whatever on the subject,but dont know if i need a pvc or not or what..anyone got any suggestions or ideas?thanx!

PVC wont help you, PCV on the other hand will! Do a search under PCV, Samiyam and others have covered this topic quite well in the last couple years.

Thats the way the engines were set up that ran those valve covers to start with. Ran a ton of them that way back in the 60s, inc several 3x2 setups on my old 56 Chev. Road draft tube with oil filler tube in intake manifold with a stock Chev breather cap. Dont use a sealed cap on the oil filler tube like the later engines used that ran PCV valves if you are running a road draft pipe.
