my buddie just bought a 64 caddie with bags. last night we were on are way home from dinner and and the u-joints went out. my question is whats the best way to fix this problem? inland empire makes a drivelin for chevys that we could adapt to work (carrier bearing is different). or should we just rebuild the old one? my buddie has a broken back so he can't have this car leave him stranded. he can't push. he has the money to fix it so we want to get it done right the first time. as always thaanks for the help.

I just sold my lowered 64 Cad and can tell you this. They run a two piece driveshaft like the Chevys only much beefier, and with a bigger heavy duty carrier bearing. The U-joints are CV type joints and I had my whole driveshaft rebuilt when I got my car (ran around $200.00). The stock drive shaft also has a slip joint built into it but if you are running bags you may have exceded the amount of travel between the two drive shaft halfs and that will wear out the U-joints damn fast, you may also be exceding the maximum angle the u-joints should be moving too and that would kill them also. I thought of bagging my car and would have had a new driveshaft with high angle U-joints installed and a slip joint with more travel in it.
