I don't know whether it is good or bad but I just took a '59 Caddy coupe in trade. It looks real good at 25' but needs work. What I need someones help on is to find out if you know, if there is any other (later) car that I could use the power brake booster and master cylinder parts. The original is crap.If I can get this boat to run and stop, I would like to make it look like the Hot wheels flat black with flames '59 Caddy.

Okay, this one's no sweat, cuz I did this on my '59 Caddy...get a brake booster from a '64 Cadillac (62 and 63 will work too, but they're much more expensive...i guess that they're hard to come by)...I got my booster from "Booster Dewey"...you can find him in Hemmings Motor News, he usually has a color ad, and he has a warranty. The firewall bolt pattern for the '64 booster is the same as the '59 booster, so it bolts right up. When going for a master cylinder, don't get a remanned one...they're shit. Tried doing this conversion with a remanned 64 caddy cylinder just to find out that the cylinder was leaking every time we tried to bleed the system down. Any late 60's GM dual master cylinder will fit onto the caddy booster, just make sure you get one that is for drum/drum, not disc/drum. I'm running one for a '67 Chevelle. I got it brand new from Advance Auto parts, and I think it was somethin' like 40 bucks. Splitting the brake system on these cars is a breeze too, just start at the fitting that goes into your master cylinder and go down...there is a junction fitting on the frame directly beneath it. Take the line going to the rear brakes off of the junction fitting and plug the hole it came out of in the fitting. You're gonna need a proportioning valve, so I suggest you put it here, on the end of the rear brake line. I got one of the small brass ones from speedway for 34 bucks, and it worked great. Then, just take off the line that originally ran to your master cylinder, and run one from the new master cylinder to this hole in the fitting. Then you run a line from the other master cylinder on the dual to the proportiong valve. The only thing left at this point is to bleed down the system, and adjust the proportioning valve. One other thing to note is the pedal of the '59...when you take off the original booster, you'll have to take off a cotter pin and a spring washer and then slide the loop on the arm of the booster off of the pedal pin. The pedal pin loop on the '64 booster is a hair too small for the '59 pin. The whole pedal assembly lifts right out after you have all of the booster bolts off, so use a file to make the new booster loop fit to the '59 pedal pin. Obviuosly, it's easier to fit this stuff with it on the bench than under the dash on your back, so I thought I'd save you some time with this hint. If you've got any other questions, send me an email or PM me and I'd be happy to answer them if I can. Good luck!
