Barry Lobeck built a KICK ASS 40 back in the very early 70s that would rule just as much TODAY...
Raked, black with flames, hopped flattie, louvered hood, black vinyl interior...just done RIGHT!
I believe it was featured in the December 1974 issue of HOT ROD...but I'm going on memory there!

'40's had wide fives?
I'd put some numbers on the side, maybe a sponsor or 2, check the fluids on the full race flattie, and drive it down to the local dirt track.

Forties had 5on5 1/2 but race cars liked to use the wide fives.
Does anyone have pictures of the "Bonneville Boomer"?

I like this one but they are really bad without a hood on. Not much needed for these bodys. They came off the assy line COOL,

Left alone stock or slightly hopped up '40 fords are bitchin. And that is how most usually are. I would love to have a candy apple red one with chrome reverse and white scallops with the California rake, but Here are 2 that I really dig. They are beautiful. Much more heart went into these than the flat black examples with Mustngs 2's purveying the street scene of today with "gold chainer" pilots. I don't know, the 40 coupe is just not as accesible these days and there are so many bad versions, such as it is with everything.

You can't go wrong with a '40 coupe. Make it arrow-straight and low...you can't really screw up the rest.

Restyling the '39-'40 Ford should be a synonym for "reinventing the wheel." All they need is a slight rake and a hopped up mill (Olds, Caddy and Flathead all seem like good choices). For the record, I do like 'em with their hoods off. I'd build mine white with red wheels, wide whites and baloney stacks on the three carburetors.

Haven't got a pic but back in the eighties I looked at one at a show (not done 80s style thank goodness) then was lowered to the max. No major body mods, just nosed decked and shaved.
It have bigs n littles on americans (maybe they were fentons). So the only rake goin' on was rubber rake. It made the car look really tiney. radical without being extreme.

I second that barf Bigcheeze! I know that was the thing back in the day, but even when I was young and dumb I could not stand to see that done to such a beautiful car! Nice set of wheels and dropped.
This post reminds me of when I was in high school, I ran into this guy that just finished a 40 coupe. He had 2 but after he finished the one he said he wanted to do something different. So he was selling the other and it was in good shape and already chopped. Now I dont particularly like them chopped either, but I wasnt going to complain. I went home and told my dad and he said no. He said no way will mom let that sit outside here! Damn it! Oh well. That was one of the many once in a life time deals I didnt get. Oh did I forget to mention that he only wanted $400 for it complete! Satin http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

E,
Now where did you go and find that? I should have known, you where sitting kind of funny last time you wuz in town. Pulled it right outta there... dint ya?
Now you do have too many projects, probably won't be getting the car we talked about. If you want my 2 cents, it comes with the 15" wheels, I'd build it to look like the one in the photo that alchemy posted... that roof line and door pillar are very attractive. Gotta git... My coupes a callin'!

Do this, but a little bit less "rat" and don't use a Chevy mill unless it's a 348 or it's all you can afford. This is my favorite hot rod color scheme now.

I built it myself. Longer doors, chopped with a rearward tilt, slightly leaned B pillers, and lowered. The rest is original Henry.
The car is sitting right here next to me on my hard drive.

Damn near forgot about that car.
Sold the body to a guy in Denver and a month later his garage burned down.
Heard the body was outside and not to messed up.Sitting in Golden last I heard.
The rear end and brakes are on the A sedan I just posted pictures of.
