Harpoon I want you to pinstripe as well, since I am planning on it. But the truth is NO, you cannot fly with it. The penalty for doing so is very HIGH.. We ship paint here at work for touching up bikes, and its a no go on air shipments same with carry on.. They can fine us up to $100,000. for doing so, not sure for passangers, but the answer is no. Try to ship the paint ( ground only)or send it with a friend.. Is your little bro not taking that bad ass "high school" rod??..

Like i said before, just put it in shampoo bottles and shit like that.. and dont carry the bag on...
'Poon, do it South American style--keister it! (But take it out of the can before you stick it in yer ass!)

Surely someone is driving that lives near you, give it to them to take out there.

Like Unkl Ian said...you can't fly with it. I wouldn't push the issue by trying to "smuggle" it into your checked bagage either. This is a new era...the airports are taking this stuff seriously. You might be able to get away with it...but is it worth the risk? Either have somebody bring it, in their car, from Cal. or wherever, or buy it in Vegas. I'm sure One-Shot is available in Vegas. I paint signs and stripe all over the country...usually I just pick up the paint when I get there. When I go back, I've got a stash of paint waiting for me. If nothing else, you can probably sell or trade it to someone else when you're ready to leave...or get somebody to take it back to Cal. for you.

I highly recomend carrying your brushes. I taped mine to cardboard and then made a kind of cardboard envelope to wrap around that. Ran it through the xray machine and they still had to look at them. It's a lot easier to get paint than it is to replace lost or damaged brushes. I ran some '59 Caddy lights through, in my carry on, and those had to get checked out. It's a new, screwed up world. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Shoulda seen their faces when I carried on some hand painted ceramic skulls that were wrapped up in my luggage...classic! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hazardous materials according to the FAA (http://asi.faa.gov/these.asp)
Rix2Six

Hey Harpoon... I'm driving out in my Jeep. I'd have plenty of room to take it both ways.
PM me if I can help ya out!
rat rodder you need to not be giving that kind of advise, like others said, times have changed! heard the stories about airports being shut down for monor security breaches? how would YOU like to be the asshole responsible for making thousands late for wherever they are going?
and i learned first hand what it costs to ship paint containing lead a few years ago at an old job, i neglected to ask how much shipping was...cost more to ship than the very expensive paint cost in the first place.
If you don't have Rix2Six take them for you just UPS your paints to yourself at the hotel your staying at. I've done this with tools and equipment before. They'll hold it at the desk for you till you check in...

That's another good way to get in trouble.
Couriers want to know what they are shipping. And they charge extra for Hazardous Goods.
The EPA is tough on shit like this.
Robert and Joanna from Lazerlines.com shipped paint, reducer, and hardener,
to a panel jam near Kansa City several years ago.
Of course the stuff leaked in transit. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
They had the FBI and the DEA show up at Bob Bond's place,
half a dozen unmarked cars, cruisers,Special Agents,Pinstripers running for dear life.
It's funny now,it was not funny then.
And the rules are tougher now.
If you ship it, CLIP the cans!!! Those little spring loaded clips? Also, double bag each can and bag the whole mess as one when done.
To give you an idea on plane travel, Scotty, Rockys Brother set off the sensors cause his suitcase had residuals of NITROMETHANE on it from being at the drags!!!!!
I emptied my bag in Mexico because I had a piece of CONCRETE sculpture.that might have looked like some sort of composistion explosive!

This was after 9 -11... Now to mind you im about 50 miles from Ground zero.
I went to denver to meet some family, my cuzin told me to bring my tiny R C gas powered car. I through it in a suit case packed with clothes and other shit.. I took 2 shampoo bottles and filled them with Nitro gas, and through it with my moms shit... All the bags passed, with a few exceptions, with my tiny tool bag(which was seized)
Everything worked out, and im sure no one will find out... but it would be pretty fucked up, if the airport closed due to a artist..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I called southwest to ask and they said absolutely no flamable materials.....so I put my paint in "tempra" (is that right?) bottles and got on with no hassle...I'm not saying to do it, but I did and it worked...

I have paint shipped to me all the time. The extra charge isn't that much. IT IS NOT that big of a deal. POR-15 & Eastwood ship their paints all the time. You can order 1-shot from any nymber of vendors via UPS. I recently got a gallon of POR-15 shipping was $12 no biggie...
it's not that its paint, its that its LEAD BASED PAINT!
it is hazardous material! probably a felony to illegaly transport hazardous material across state lines. it may not seem like a big deal to you, but to the feds it is. go ahead and stick that lead based paint in other bottles, preferabley the kind little kids can open easy and suck on!
the advise given here is like saying drive as drunk as you want, just throw the bottle out the window if you see a cop and you'll be fine!
the point is, airport security is the LAST place you want to try to be sneaking shit thru.
it was last summer i think, remember the anthrax scare that turned out to be something used for cooking or some shit in a sports bottle? it was a big fucking deal.
