Has anyone done a comparison between gas prices and minimum wage/price of housing/loaf of bread etc???

I'm thinking $2 is cheap... while the price of housing in my area has moer than DOUBLED in the last 7 years...as well as my wage... gas seems to not have gone up as much.

I'm happy for you making 30 bucks an hour Oldbeet. But at 1/2 that it's starting to squeeze my parts and traveling budget. I'd much rather Buy some new spring perches and a new front spring for the A than give it to some rich oil company bastard so he can get his little girl a new Lexus for her birthday. They can't really blame OPEC for this one. They've jacked the prices up for months and OPEC still hasn't cut production, altho they probably finally will at the next meeting. There has been no shortage of gas from OPEC. Just speculation on the oil markets and oil companies that create a bottleneck by not having enough refineries.

$1.89 for the cheap goat piss here....$1.96 for the high test...you know, the entertainment industry (at least in my neck of the woods) has been sucking lately....nobody goin out to see bands anymore around here....clubs keep bitchin' about us raising our prices to compensate for gas....there's no reason why anybody should have to lose their ass now just because the price of petrol is climbing....it used to be decent for each guy in my band to make at least $100 on each gig....but not if it costs $40 in gas to get there....it's nice to finally realize that the inflation rate will be set forth from now on by Big Oil...it's the hard truth....buy some stock in Shell or BP or something, that's how you make the big bucks....

Series of explosions rocks Texas City refinery

A series of explosions rocked the bp Amoco plant in Texas City.
ABC13 Eyewitness News
(3/30/04 - TEXAS CITY, TX) — A shelter in place has been issued for residents in Texas City after a series of explosions rocked the area.
According to eyewitnesses the first blast at the BP Amoco chemical plant occurred around 7:15pm. Some witnesses say there were at least four explosions - the fourth being the loudest.

According to B.C. Clawson with the Texas City Emergency Management, the fire occurred in the furnace area. After the explosion, hydrocarbon feed stock was burning off.

It doesn't appear the smoke is toxic, but authorities issued a shelter in place order. Residents in the area should stay indoors. Police have shut down State Highway 146 near the plant.

Texas City firefighters are trying to get a handle on the flames and some witnesses say the flames are beginning to die down a bit.

"We're about five miles away where the incident occurred and we were standing out on the porch and saw the explosion and saw a big burst of flames right off the bat," said eyewitness Steve Letterman.

All workers have been accounted for, and no injuries have been reported.

Stay with ABC13 Eyewitness News for the latest on this developing situation.

Iraqis Drag Bodies Through Streets After Attack

By Michael Georgy

FALLUJA, Iraq (Reuters) - A crowd of cheering Iraqis dragged charred and mutilated bodies through the streets of the town of Falluja Wednesday after an ambush on two vehicles that witnesses said killed at least three foreigners.

In a separate attack one year after the U.S.-led war on Iraq (news - web sites) that overthrew Saddam Hussein (news - web sites), five American soldiers were killed when a roadside bomb was detonated beside their convoy west of Baghdad, the U.S. army said.

The Falluja violence began when two four-wheel-drive vehicles were attacked by guerrillas on a main road in the town, 32 miles west of Baghdad. A crowd then set the vehicles ablaze and hurled stones into the burning wreckage.

Television pictures showed one incinerated body being kicked and stamped on by a member of the jubilant crowd, while others dragged a blackened body down the road by its feet.

The footage showed at least three people lying dead, while some witnesses said that four were killed. It was not clear how many people were in the vehicles.

As one body lay burning on the ground, an Iraqi came and doused it with petrol, sending flames soaring. At least two bodies were tied to cars and pulled through the streets, witnesses said.

"This is the fate of all Americans who come to Falluja," said Mohammad Nafik, one of the crowd surrounding the bodies.

Some body parts were pulled off and left hanging from a pole, while two incinerated bodies were later strung from a bridge over the road and left dangling there.

It was unclear who was traveling in the vehicles, both four-wheel drives of the type used by foreign contractors, journalists, civilian members of the U.S.-led coalition and some military personnel. Witnesses said they saw anywhere between four and eight people in the cars before they were attacked.

Some of the victims were wearing civilian clothes, flak jackets and were armed, witnesses said, but that was not clear from the television footage. One of those killed had fair hair and was wearing khaki trousers and a white T-shirt.

As the victims lay burning, a crowd of around 150 men chanted "Long live Islam" and "Allahu Akbar" ("God is Greatest") while flashing victory signs.

Falluja has been one of the most violent, restive towns in Iraq since the U.S.-led occupation began. There are almost daily attacks on U.S. military convoys in the area.

were on your street in Burndbank?
Think about it for a second.
We got fed a pack of lies about Iraq, and like the gullible Americans we are we followed lemming like into a situation that was 100% unneccessary.
You think things are bad now, just wait until you see the next wave of distrguntled Islamists that come creeping out of the woodwork, woodwork that was American made.
In no way am I justifying the action of terrorists, but these guys in Iraq are fighting a guerrilla war in response to their homeland being invaded.
Don't forget Hussein was an American creation to begin with.

Whether or not we needed to intervene...

Whether or not these people were contractors rebuilding infrastructure... or CIA death squads for that matter,

The brutality of the manner in which they were killed sickens me. Shoot them if you must, kill them if you must, but respect them.

Perhaps I have been lead to beleive what I beleive, but that doesn't change the fact that by all outward appearances, THESE ARE SAVAGES.

And yes, if the chinese invade, I'll be on a rooftop with a Druganov, but I wont be mutilating corpses like goddamn jeffry dahmer.

My apologies, though, to you Nads, as I know that what you beleive is not what these things beleive.

Then why didn't you "just" title it "curious about gas prices around the country?"?
You use a volatile title you get volatile responses.

I can't figure any fair reason why Tucson gets gas for 25% less than here... other than ripping us off because we need it almost as much as water (which costs even more than gas per gallon, bottled) to function here.
We have oil and refineries right here, so it's not a cost of delivery excuse.

burndup, I hate those fuckers too, and I think their way of fighting is cowardly, but that's all they've got. And believe me there's more to come. I'm just questioning the whole debacle from the beginning.
Why the hell are we trying to democtratize a people who only respect iron fisted thugs as legitimate authority?
The Afghani invasion situation I can understand, there was plenty of evidence that Al Qaeda's home base was in that country, but Iraq, c'mon?
Having said that, both the Afghanis and Iraqis have successfully repelled foreign powers many times before. And if we're serious about having success in these hellholes, we'd better be willing to put 100s of 1000s of more troops in those places. Short of nuclear bombs there's no other way of gaining the upper hand, and I know some of you favor that possibility.
These folks will never be our friends, but with our skewed foreign policy we're well on the way to making ALL of them our mortal enemies.

PS I also believe that when hunting animals the only fair way to do it is on the animal's terms. That way we can really see if a human can beat a bear with his own two hands.

Crap needs to change so OUR govt stops setting landmines that it marches its people thru...

Fuel industry needs to go back to a true SUPPLY and DEMAND economy, which brings us to...

Fuel/automotive industry needs to INNOVATE to put forth new technology that will embrace biodiesel and viable hydrogen fuel cell technology. There will always be a need for gasoline, but our daily lives shouldn't have to be depedant on it.

We need to be able to break OPEC's back, or at least bring them to their knees and keep them there.

If Iraq is truly this generation's Viet Nam, lets have our little Mei Lai party and then walk out and let them self destruct... Anything left in the bomb bays should be disposed of over Mogadishu on the flight home...

I worked for exxonmobil for 13 years,One of the jobs was to take the diffrent componets and blend the grades of fuel.... In Cali our refinery blended a low vapor presure (V/P) grade regular and super (mid grade was blended into the trucks) also at this time of year we would have to blend a higher V/P reg/ super for colder areas. then there was the MTBE and NON-MTBE (this is the stuff that the tree huggers said sould be added to gas to help the air, but we found that it is water soluable (SP) so it's in our ground water and in the workers blood streem)... So what happens is a storage shortage.... Then this is the slow time for travel so refineries have turnarounds.... You cant just turn a refinery off some units will take a week just to cool down (1500-2000 deg)then work goes on for up too 40 days (24-7, 12 hour days) So they can gear up for the summer season.... Plus the government will not up our production rates. The city we worked out of limted out production out of fear of polution..... AQMD would fine us 25000$ if they found a leaking drain plug dripping more than 3 drops a min.. Our plant was not a gross poluter but AQMD is self funded so the more fines they cite the more they have in there next budget......So theres a lot of things going on that cause this besides corp. greed...Refineries are like prisons...we want more of them, just not in my back yard Oh by the way our refinery hardly ever ran any Arab crude! Maybe 10% from Mexico then the rest was pumped in from bakersfield!!!

Absolutly no doubt the direction our country needs to go in. My moms "highway oil" is one of the few that still pump it for you. last week they quit selling 89 octane. my mom quit buying from them. She would rather pump her own gas than support a company that has lines 24hrs a day and doesnt appreciate the customers. Biggest problem in this country we have though is getting the Starbucks loving, Walmart shopping ,SUV driving people to wake up and give a shit.

update from LA (lower arkansas) gas in Hope AR jest jumped to between 1.65 on ones side of town 1.75 on the other about 1/4 of a mile from one another both with'n a few hundred yards of I-30 and its 1.80 in Blevins AR (wholy shit) I can't quote it per batum or even give you correct numbers but I have read somewhere that the US imports the majority of its oil from South America and less than 20% comes from the Middle East. If this is incorrect I'm sorry but if its true why is it that OPEC seems to have such an effect on our prices?

A. Blame fucking OPEC for the $35 a barrel

B. Blame fucking Kerry and the other DemoCrapheads for voting for the 1994 Clinton $.50 gas tax increase. Plus he wants even more taxes on it.

C. Blame Kerry and the fucking tree huggers for keeping the Artic virtually untapped. Meanwhile we depend upon OPEC even more than in 73.

D. Blame yourselves for driving gas guzzlers.

E. Quit fucking whining and buy a bicycle if you cant afford fuel.

F. Correct about Heinz. What doesnt get printed is that the Heinz company was a leader in moving jobs offshore, they have been in China for 20 years. Only ~20 Heinz plants remain in the US.

G. Get an education and a real job.

H. Blame Bush for keeping your sorry asses safe.

I. Get off the fucking computer and actually do some real work on company time.

First off I don't wish to make enemies. After reading this I thought about it and decided to post.

1. The constitution say's "By the people, For the people",it's not that way anymore. For polititions, it's for them by them, screw the people. I don't vote, why? cause I don't trust any of them and thats a shame.I've caught alot of flak for this.

2. As for driving gas guzzlers, they lower gas prices for a long while creating a false sense of hope, making us feel like we can afford this all the time, more people get these. Then all of a sudden they raise prices, now we can't afford it, they are making money, do they care , no.

3. As for getting a real job, working in factories and mines were real jobs. Now, there are alot more people out there looking for jobs. It's all computer related, why? because all the factory jobs have been shipped over seas and such, how else are the companies going to keep in touch with them. To get a "good job" takes education. But who has the 20 grand that it takes per year to get a education.

4.As for shopping at walmart, tell me who here doesn't like getting a bargain. If you say nobody, then I don't want to see "hey I got this 50 ford for $50" or "hey if you need this such and such part send me your addy it's yours" That's why Walmart is so big. I feel bad for these mom and pop places put out of bussiness by these big corperations, but we are our own enemy.

Sometimes I feel I should just leave that car sit in the woods cause it ain't worth the hassel of trying to figure out how I'm going to afford how to do it cause gas is to high and I don't have a real job. I'm too busy trying to provide a nice place for my family and save for the future. I apologize for my ramblings it's just sometime I wonder if it's worth living anymore these day's. Remember money is the root of all our problems wether good or bad. Again I'm sorry. later plmczy
