Wow what a piece !!! That looks to be a dana 60. Is the entire canter case mag? do the axle tubes bolt on? You know the Ramchargers were Chrysler Engineers that had access to all phases of automotive mfg.Ill bet they had that piece cast for there dragster.Look at Mark Williams rear ends nowadays.Could that one you have be the forerunner ?
Wanna sell it? Im very interested.---FEDER

A good friend is a former drag racer, top fuel and funny car. I stoped by his shop today and saw the rear end sitting on a pile of old parts. I asked about it and he said it was new, never used. Someone started a project years ago and never finished it. HE said it was magnesium, I don't know how to check.......the axle tubes do bolt on and it does look new. He wants to sell it but I don't have a price yet. I thought it would look good under my project '34 pick up http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif He is gonna get more info on it Wed.

Damn that is a neat piece of drag racing history... it needs to be put in something that will SHOW IT OFF. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Anyway, I bought some Magnesium wheels for the BFD over the weekend and my buddy Tim was skeptical about them being mag because they were not all that light... so I scraped some shavings off it, put them in a spoon and heated the spoon from underneath... when they lit... there was a brightass light... when we did the same with some known aluminum... it just turned powdery...
Anyway, if the guy says it's aluminum, it probably is. But if you have to prove it... take some off and burn it... just don't try to light the whole thing on fire... you won't be able to put it out. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif But you knew that already.
Sam.

I consulted my grandfather, who FEDER may know as 'MayhemBob', about this. Apparently it's almost certainly aluminum, as magnesium would most likely have rotted away into a pile of mess by now. Try the shavings-fire trick someone talked about earlier. Keep us posted, this is one cool part!
