1990 350 chev roller motor....is it possible to use a regular mechanical fuel pump on it ?? does it have a lobe on the cam to drive it ? if so...I need the pushrod and pump and I'm good ---yes?? No ??(motor has a block-off plate on it ..)

thanks, Jersey skip

Shouldn't be any reason you couldn't run a stock mechanical fuel pump.

My 88 305 has not only a block off plate, but the hole is "plugged" where the mechanical pump would go. By plugged, I mean the casting was never taken out. If you have a hole in that spot, by all means, use a mechanical fuel pump there.

Mine is a 1990 350 with the roller cam. I run a Mechanical pump on it.

There is a possible issue of pushrod material compatibility with the roller cam. Someone, I believe Crane, offers a pushrod for this combo. The roller can 350's I have, running from '86 -90, all seem to have the proper openings and a cam lobe there. I think there may have been some roller cam Camaros and Caprices with mechanical pumps in the first year or two of the new block, but I'm not certain of that.

I get giddy thinking about 350 roller engines. Not to steal this thread, but what years/models would I find one of these in at the junkyard?

Thanks,
Ed

Late 80's/early 90's Vettes and Police Caprice's had them. Maybe Impala's too.

I had to change the Distributor Gear to make my older HEI compatable with the roller cam. Mine was a GM part, but I think thats what the Bronze aftermarket gears are for too.

What about Camaros and Formula 350's?

All of the ZZ series of 350 HO crate engines (ZZZ, ZZ1, ZZ2, ZZ3, ZZ4 and the ZZ430) are roller cammed. Almost everyone uses a mechcanical pump on them .....Myself included. No problems with the fuel pump pushrod on the roller camshaft.
