So it's really starting to look like a killer mill now....this is the 390 Cadillac that I'm stuffing into my '30 model A coupe....no hood, no fenders, 4 inch chop, 4 inch channel....390 Cadillac mill bored out to 396 (.030 over), Babe Erson full race cam (307 duration with a .562 lift), .202 stainless intake valves, .170 stainless exhaust, 6 strombergs, Edelbrock CA-6 intake, Edelbrock finned aluminum valve covers, Vertex magneto, chromed and polished everything except the block and heads.....here she is....whadda ya think?

Black and Chrome - goes together better than bread and butter!! Looking sweet - I like the chrome fan!

CadillacKid
03-30-2004, 02:58 PM
yeah, it got a little sick and outta hand with the chrome...you know how it is...."Hey, this would look good shiny...."...then you get that back from the plater's, and say, "Wow, that looks great....this would look good shiny too",....and there it goes...every bit of sanity that was left...right out the window...chromed the generator too...still making a bracket for it....making the zoomie type headers outta stainless too.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif...guess I'll never learn....and I hope I never do! I'm comin for ya Junkyard Dog.... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gifhttp://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Jake's got a giiiirlfriend.
Did you two make love yet? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Looks titties, man.
Does your carb guy do 2Gs or just the Strombergs?
I'd like to get the ones done for my Man-A-Fre.
No chrome... just fresh rebuilds.

I know you ain't no rookie, but that's a big bunch of power in a little bitty car. It ain't gonna be nothin' like the 40' Battle Caddy your '59 is.
Just be careful... N'kay?

JOEhttp://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

CadillacKid
03-30-2004, 03:25 PM
yeah Joe...Gordy the carb dude does Rochesters and Holleys too...he said he'd get the same price for any of 'em....his name's Gordy Teschendorf...his in Milwaukee, and his # is (414)546-2867...it's best to catch him after about 5 or 6 at night, or just keep tryin....yeah, I got an "appointment" with Mike Freund set...he's gonna learn me on how to pilot them little cars that gots power...unlike the aircraft carrier I'm used to cruisin.....it's good that you don't want chrome carbs too, cuz Gordy said that my carbs were "The LAST chrome carbs I'll ever do!" I don't blame him...after you get 'em back from the plater's they're all full of buffing compund and shit....the first rebuild's the worst...after that they're no sweat....

CadillacKid
03-30-2004, 08:16 PM
Yeah, I certainly would like to take it to the Hamb drags...I've got a BIG gig on the Friday night before in Wausau, Wi though....Big Bull Falls Blues Fest....ussually about 6,000 people in the audience....don't think that I can get outta that one....now, if the drags are on Sunday too,...hmmmmmm....the valve covers came off of egay...paid 300 bones for 'em and they had a couple chipped fins...took 'em over to my buddy with the aluminum welding knowledge...he built up the chips, then I got out a dremmel tool, files, and some sandpaper and made 'em look "right" again....then paid $100 to have 'em polished again....the intake came from Marcus off of ebay....$300 for the intake and then $200 to have it polished.....yeah, the most expensive parts to chrome were the oil pan and the water pump....got $475 in chromin' that pan, and (ouch) $525 in chromin' the water pump.....but they sure look nice!! Thanks for all of the thumbs up on this guys...it was about two years ago that I brought that mill home and started taking it apart cuz it was froze up....there's a big difference now....

An engine after my own heart. Low shiny stuff and yours is shiny. damn good looking. Who did your plating for you.

kustumizer
03-30-2004, 09:04 PM
That is one of the nicest mills ive ever seen. You did a really good job and that should look killer in the car! Nate

CadillacKid
03-30-2004, 09:34 PM
The Chrome Shop in Menasha, Wi did all of the plating...their number is (920)727-9444. They do a super great job, and ussually have a really quick turn around time...I hope it just runs as good as it looks now! Putting an adapter plate with a Turbo 400 trans behind it...2800 stall B&M converter...is this enough stall for this mill? Thanks guys...
Steve

Very nice. How are you doing with the coupe?

CadillacKid
03-31-2004, 01:13 AM
We've started doing the body work on the coupe...the top of the grille shell is filled, the roof is totally welded in, the stock Model A gas tank has been toched out, and we're reworking the firewall....Hey Wingnutz, I thought that you were the keeper of the chains... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif...I wonder if Marcus has seen this yet.....

Lordy, that's amazing.
Dunno if I'd have put that much money into chroming stuff but it's your mill, I can dig it.

I met a way cool guy at the Mount Dora Antique Boat Festival this past weekend, he builds hopped up marine 390s that put out 425 h.p. He builds his own dual quad intakes, puts in big valves and he's even starting to build stroker rods.
The engine costs a whopping $9800, marine ready, minus charging system and carbs.

CadillacKid

Cool Nads...I've got a buddy in New Jersey that I sold a '60 Caddy block to that races Allards with those mills...he runs custom small block chevy billet rods that are 6 1/2 inch, same as the caddy rods...you have to thin up the big end of the rods to fit the caddy crank journals, and on the big plus side of things, the journal end of the small block rods is smaller inside diameter than the cad rods by 1/8", so you can stroke the caddy mill by this much by offset grinding the crank for the rods....he then runs custom chevy pistons that have the piston pin moved to the same height as the caddys....notch 'em for the oversize valves and voila! they're ready to run....the other really big plus to this is that you can then run an ARP rod bolt which lets you run the mill at a higher rpm....the stock rod bolts are only good to about 5500...but he spins those 390s at 7000 all day long! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

CadillacKid
04-01-2004, 04:16 PM
He runs the '60 Cad blocks, takes off the oil filter block elbow and runs a dry sump system with a plate that he attaches there. Crazy shit....
