How are the new electronic speedometers actuated? Where do they pick up the revolutions? I'm speaking of the new Moon Eyes, Stewart Warner etc. speedos they offer in kits, either mechanical or electronic.
Thanks,

I have a classic instruments electric speedo. It has a box that screws onto the tranny where the speedo cable would and is a pulse generator.

Thanks Wayfarer. I was hoping it was not some piece of crap you have to glue to a drum. What you say sounds like a clean deal.

I gots one of them too and it works great, I have never had a problem with it. If you change tires it is a walk in the park to dial in the speedo.

I have one too, works great. Just screw the Hall Efects sensor where the cable normally goes, run a few wires and you are done.

Yeah its a Pulse Generator that attaches in place of the old cable.....you want to route your 2 wires from it to speedo by themselves so it wont pick up other signals falsely.the good part is you calibrate and re adjust for gears or tire size changes.
Thee things more or less $ than th "Old kind"?
And do they record miles driven too? is that re-set able??

I think they're just slightly more, but you can always change it for tire and gear changes. They have an odometer, but mine doesn't have a resetable trip odometer. No, you can't reset the odometer, at least I don't think you can.
