Putting together a set list for the band we are looking at hiring.
If you were to pick the top 25 beach/hot rod songs of all time what would they be? They should all be pre-1966.
Thanks

I like Ronnie and the Daytonas version of G.T.O.
Wipeout-Surfaris
Pipeline-Chantays
MiserLou-Dick Dale
Hey Little Cobra-Rip Chords
Anything by Jan & Dean or the Beach Boys
Hot Rod Man.
I'd have them do car songs then do a beach set while the eating's going on. Songs like in my room or surfer girl are quieter for better dinner conversation time. Kick in the faster stuff after dinner when the dancing and drinking starts. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yeah, Pollo Del Mar is good. This 'un isn't pre 66 but, 40 miles to vengeance from the Penetrators is too cool.

I'm listening to Wild Thing by the Troggs in the computer right now. Can't get Jan & Dean outa my head this week. Add "Schlock Rod" to the list! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Now I've got Dick Dale doing Ghost Riders playing! Wish I could crank it up, but I'm at work.

Well ya see there is a band we are hiring. They are more of a 70's band but better than most around here. They say they are willing to learn some different songs. We are thinking if we could come up with 25 songs that would be enough to do 2 sets about 45 minutes each with a break in between.

man, i get around is the quintessential song of the era for me. timeless. as relevant then as now. everybody else really said it all. pipeline fucking rocks though!
Anything Dick Dale or the Venturis then. Gotta keep it surf beachie flavored. Think about it do you want it to sound like a luau or a sock hop? See if to can get them to do some don ho stuff that stuffs cool and adds to the overall feel.
