You go, Kenny! I agree, the damn thing's still a truck, even if it is a hot rod. Well, yours never was a truck but it is now.
When I had my 50 chevy sedan delivery, I houled my big ol 80 gallon air compressor home from Menards and I hauled all my kid's wedding presents home from the reception with it too.
I hesitated a little when my dad wanted me to haul a load of cow shit home to put on his garden with my 289 powered '49 F-1 but I did it...have the photos to prove it too. I also found a photo of the same truck loaded to the top of the cab with firewood.
This is precisely why my newest truck will have a 32" long box. I won't be tempted to haul anything but ass with it.

Excellent http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif See, the Australians have been onto something for the last 70 years. You don't need a giant, unparkable, jacked up monster truck to haul junk around!

I'll never understand why some people think they can't drive their stuff around. The way I see it is that the sooner it starts to get worn out, the sooner you can tear it down and fix it up again.

Seriously tho- most generally your cars are nicer than this one and you shouldnt haul trash in it.....but I think a lot of real good cars get put in the cobwebs tto often and that is the DEATH of a machine.....Sitting Damage!so I say-Drive it -it wont melt -also they make more paint, etc to redo it when it needs it..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Choprods has an excellent point.

There useta was and maybe still is an Oakland Show car - 37 Ford convert - down the street from my house.
Only times I ever saw it was when it was headed for the local car show.
Not the Saturday night rod run, the once a year car show.
Bout the third time I saw it go by it was running so bad I was wondering if he would make it.

Funny part about a lot of this hot rod stuff, guys want these cars all their lives and when they finally get them they're afraid to drive them.
Cept on Saturday nights to the rod run.
Looking at some of these cars with their poor ergonomics makes me think it's not only the perfect paint et al that keeps them from driving them, it's because they can't handle sitting in them for more than a half hour at a time.

I've found with all of my cars, modified or stock, if you drive them they run better and don't seem to deteriorate away like some of the garage queens do.

Far as hauling stuff in my 32 rumble seat - with no cushions - roadster goes, here's the short list.

Seven crates of oranges in lugs in the trunk with rumble lid open.

A small load of 8 & 9' long 1/4" & 3/6" stainless steel rod stuck through the unsnapped rear window corner, wrapped with a towel to protect the upholstery from the grease and the bottom of the rod sitting in a small can so it didn't poke holes in the carpet.

A 2 x 4' sheet of plywood slid through the completely unsnapped rear window, front sitting on the windshield frame top and rear sitting on and bungee'd to the roll bar.

Five cases of beer.
Big BBQ for a few friends.

Sheet steel about 16 gage short enough to fit in the trunk.

One really big slick w/wheel in the trunk.

Enough groceries to fill the trunk, right floorboards and right seat.

Steel tubing and solid, bottom end on the floorboard in a clean old towel, middle with a towel taped on and long enough to stick out the right side window a little bit.

4 x 6 piece of lumber 8' long sawn in half.
Bottom on the floor, top resting on the seat back.

Whole bunch of 7' molding out the back window.

More than a few single 8' long chunks of lumber.

Three 6', 200# guys.
Course the middle one is the designated shifter.

Thing is, you can do stuff like this without hurting the car if you just take a little care putting it in, wrap the dirty stuff with an old and clean towel and tie it down securely.
Most times the passenger side seatbelt works fine for a hold down device.

Sweetie and I are down to two vehicles now and it's working out pretty well.
She drives the pickup unless I need it and I drive the roadster on all my errands.
It gets dirty, but it does wash off.

And with 462" of Buick power, not many say much about my car dirty or clean....

C9... You really nailed it with guys being afraid to drive their cars.

I bought my '26 from a guy who put it together and had it running for 2 years. He put on 2K miles in 2 years. Idoubled that in 2 months. I know it's not a ton of miles but this is still my "hobby" car. I bought it to drive it! Sometimes its to a cruise night or car show or sometimes it's just filling in as a regular car doing daily errands and such.
