was your '54 flat gold with a white top? if you're the guy i'm thinking about then i went and looked at your car when it was for sale. it had MIC airbags didn't it?
well, I like Radirs, Raders,Fentons etc...............but if you look at the magazine photo'ed cars from the 60's, you see more chromies than anything else. Truth hurts.

And since they came on the market in '57, you'll see those chrome wheels wrapped in skinny white walls.
WWWs were OUT in the 60's.
Sure you could still see them on cars, even in show coverage, but they weren't being put on new builds in the 60's they were just still around on older customs.
Your car, do whatcha will...

133 we met at HAMBBQ. I have a pair of Chevy pattern fentons you may be interested in. Let me know. Wide Whites vs Skinny Whites is all interpretive. Somewhere I have an old magazine with a 49-51 chevy that has Raders and Chrome reverse's on it.
on a '49 Chevy?
either one, but depending on your car I might go for the thin whitewall on Chrome reverse.

I always likes (could afford http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif) chrome wheels. The Radir/MT's got outlawed on the drag strip which soured them for me. Since then I always thought they looked cheap and spindly. The fact that the chrome peeled of in what seemed like a week and a half didn't help either.

The Dr is right about the whitewalls. Thin was in and fat was not where it was at. But its your choice I guess.
The wheels would depend on the model of car if it were me.
I think boat fendered cars and shoebox era cars look better with chromies, and the sleaker(?) later model cars look good both ways.
I guess it really depends on the car and the look your after.
Hmmmm I think I smell an opinion here. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you want traditional I say chrome reverse. If you're looking for more of a custom look, I'd say Radirs. As far as the width of the whitewall, I think late '50's and early '60s cars look better with the narrow ones, more factory, period correct. On an earlier car it depends on what period you're going for. On my '48 coupe I have chrome wheels and wide wites (old school look). On my '50 Chevy custom I'm going with chrome wheels and narrow whites for an early '60s look.
Still, it's your car. Look at a lot of photos of cars like yours, find a look you like and go with it. Nothing's cut in stone, you can always change it.

Like Donzi said - thin is more 60's correct - I remember all the mags when i was kid had thin whites and then red wall / stripe in the late 60's were the rage.
My 61 truck has chrome reverse with narrow 3/4" white walls (they came off a early 90's C1500 in the junkyard http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif) I went with these since it's more correct for the early 60's shop truck look I am going for.
But, get what YOU like - you have to look at it everyday.
Donzie, in case you didn't know, i have a '49 Chevy coupe. so, the skinnier white wall is more '60s correct? what if i go with a flaked roof, should i still run skinny whites?
here's a photshop of my car, it has the www. i like the wheel/tire combo on that. thanks everyone for the input.

OOps. time for a retraction. DrJ, I read your post wrong the other day. What you said is true. I am just so used to disagreeing with you that I misread your post http://www.jalopyjournal.com/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Anyway, save "what color is the sky in your world" as my reply to one of your future posts, it will save me the time typing it out! hehehehehe

133, the photoshop version of your car looks great. Is it chopped now or is that part of the photoshop?
Great color scheme. If you like the wide whites then do that. It appears that's a 53 Buick grille in it and the car's a '49 so a 50s theme would work well. Maybe some '50 Pontiac tail lights would be cool.
Here's a photshop version of mine.
